In recent months, Mordenites have noticed what has been labelled as an off taste, smell, and even appearance of the city’s tap water. The water has taken on a musty and earthy quality that has sparked concern in the community about its safety.  

Morden’s mayor, Nancy Penner, says the city has released a statement regarding the issue.  

Bombers hold off Riders for 26–21 victory in Banjo Bowl thriller

Saturday’s 26-21 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the annual Banjo Bowl in front of another capacity crowd of 32,343 at Princess Auto Stadium had so many savoury layers to it.

Most important: not only is it a fifth straight ‘W’ to improve the club’s record to 7-6 – the first time over .500 this season – it keeps them atop the West Division, tied with the B.C. Lions but with a tiebreaker already secured. The Riders, meanwhile, are now 5-7-1 after a 5-1 start to their season.

Violinist and vocalist Rosemary Siemens, and her husband Eli Bennett, are in the midst of filming a mini-documentary about the creation and explosion in popularity of their YouTube program "Sunday Hymn Serenade". It will be called "Bringing Back the Hymns: My Journey to 100 million Views".

Little Ballers Basketball brings youth development to Pembina Valley

Chad Celaire is the founder of Little Ballers Basketball, a developmental basketball program for kids. Celaire, a father of two, shared how his passion for the game and early exposure to basketball led to the creation of a program in the Pembina Valley that teaches both basketball skills and valuable life lessons. 

Sports Update - Sunday, September 8th

The Banjo Bowl belongs to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Zach Collaros threw for 231 yards and one touchdown as Winnipeg downed the Saskatchewan Roughriders 26-21. Brady Oliveira ran for 43 yards and caught six passes for 60 yards. Kenny Lawler hauled in a six-yard touchdown pass. Sergio Castillo kicked four field goals including a 39-yarder that extended Winnipeg’s lead to five points with 68 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Tyrell Ford intercepted Riders quarterback Trevor Harris twice.

Kickstart your child’s love for music with Crescendo Community Choir

Singing benefits people of all ages in many ways, including boosting mood, improving cognitive function, and creating community bonds. A new choir in Morden strives to offer this enrichment to children ages 7-14.  

Cecilia Gil, a music teacher with 17 years of experience in the Garden Valley School Division, is the creative mind behind the Crescendo Community Choir.

Barbie “Auntie B” Lischynski, 60, of Dominion City formerly of Rosa, passed away Tuesday, September 3rd at Altona Hospital. She is survived by her husband Melvin, her mother Nellie, 1 sister and her family. She was predeceased by her father and 1 sister in infancy. 
A Catholic prayer service followed by a celebration of life for Barbie “Auntie B” Lischynski will be held Thursday, September 12th at 11am at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with ash interment at Rosa Cemetery.

The funeral service for John Driedger will be held Thursday, September 12th at 11am at Albright Church, 415 Maxwell King Drive, East St. Paul with burial at Green Acres Cemetery.
