When Sinead Convery was just starting out in softball, opportunities to learn from high-level players were not easy to come by. That’s part of what makes the upcoming Central Energy youth clinic so exciting, not only for the kids attending, but also for the athletes leading it. 

“We never got this chance, which is why it's such a cool opportunity,” said Convery, who now plays catcher for the U15 Central Energy team.

Military says over 1,000 people flown from fire-threatened Manitoba community

The Canadian Armed Forces says it's evacuated over a thousand residents of a northern Manitoba community threatened by a wildfire, while towns and villages in the province are welcoming cooler weather they say is helping firefighters.

The military began removing people from Garden Hill First Nation on CC-130 Hercules transport airplanes on Friday, and it says that as of Sunday afternoon, over 1,550 have been flown to Winnipeg.

After an incredible weekend of baseball, the Altona Bisons and Morden Mud Hens Yellow went head to head in the finals, with the Bisons coming out on top 8-5 to claim the title.

Morden went up 3-0 in the the first inning, but the Bisons battled back.

National Defence considering purchase of fighter drones that could fly with F-35

The Department of National Defence is looking at the possibility of complementing its incoming F-35 fleet with uncrewed combat aircraft.

Unclassified documents obtained by The Canadian Press show the department is researching various options for acquiring the emerging technology.

The documents suggest that purchasing a fleet of aerial combat drones that could fly alongside fighter jets could cost as much as $16 billion and would require hundreds of staff.

Lee Siemens, a Registered Massage Therapist who works out of Winkler has officially smashed his personal running record at Old Tom’s Backyard Ultra Marathon, completing a remarkable 15 loops—an impressive 100.1 kilometers—at the event held near Blumenort on July 5th.

The Backyard Ultra is no ordinary race. “You run 4.1667 miles or 6.7 kilometers every hour,” Siemens explains. “Then, with the time remaining, you sit down, rest, eat up, and then you do it all again at the top of the next hour.”

Daggerss hits a new high note with national recognition

Laura Smith better known by her artist name Daggerss has been selected as one of just seven women across Canada to take part in Music Publishers Canada’s 2025 Women in the Studio National Accelerator, a program designed to support mid-career women and gender-diverse producers.

Community delivers for seven-year-old with leukaemia in need of help

“I was in Saskatoon on a work trip, and I got a call at about four in the afternoon from our family doctor who just received his blood tests, and he said, ‘Joe, we got some news about Jasper.’” 

What Joe Byers heard from the doctor next would alter his family’s world. 

His seven-year-old son, Jasper, was diagnosed with leukaemia.
