Provincial seeding progress sits at 40% completion, behind the 5-year average of 91% for Week 21.
Progress remains highly variable within each region, and even from farm to farm, depending on localized rainfall and soil conditions.
Wet and slowly drying soils have presented numerous problems to growers, with many instances of tractors, seeders, and sprayers getting stuck, often in unexpected places.

Weekly Provincial Summary
Heavy rains the previous week again slowed seeding efforts, leaving fields damp to saturated, and farmers rapidly adjusting plans to find drier fields, switching intended planting order, or harrow/tilling ahead of planting to condition and dry soil where possible.
Provincial seeding progress sits at about 10% completion, behind the 5-year average of 77% for Week 20.
Estimates are that most farms and pastures remain about 3 to 4 weeks behind normal in terms of seeding progress and forage growth.

Weekly Provincial Summary
Heavy rains the previous week again slowed seeding efforts, leaving fields damp to saturated, with heavier rainfall amounts concentrated in Western Manitoba, between 30 and 70 mm at most locations.
Multiple highway closures are ongoing, impacting movement of agricultural commodities and inputs. Notable new impacts to the Parkland region, as well as continuing struggles with field access across Manitoba.

Manitoba Agriculture has released the first crop report of the season.
Provincial seeding progress sits at less than one per cent complete, behind the 5-year average of 21% for Week 18.
Extremely wet and cold conditions in April prevented soils from draining and drying ahead of planting.
A number of Central region locations received over 500% of normal precipitation for the month.
As a result, crop planting is delayed by at least two weeks behind ‘normal’ starting dates.
