Steinbach man critically injured in motorcycle accident
A motorcyclist is in critical condition following an accident north of Grunthal.
On Friday evening, RCMP say a 24-year-old man from Steinbach was driving south on Provincial Road 216 and pulled out to pass a semi near Road 30 North.
The man lost control, officers say, and hit the shoulder of the road, landing in the ditch.
Police say he was ejected from his motorcycle, and was wearing a helmet.
Driver faces fine after crash at Highway 59 and Crown Valley Road
Everyone is OK, and a driver is facing a fine, following a crash at Highway 59 and Crown Valley Road.
On Friday around 4:30 p.m., RCMP say officers from the St. Pierre Jolys detachment responded to a collision between a jeep and commercial van at the intersection.
Police say an 18 year old woman, driving the jeep, was heading west on Crown Valley where she tried to cross highway 59. She was hit by the van, which was travelling north.

Canada rescinds digital services tax to resume negotiations with U.S.
Canada is rescinding its digital services tax and will resume trade negotiations with the United States, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said in a statement issued late Sunday night.
The announcement came following a phone call between Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump, and just hours before the first payment under the tax was going to come due for major tech companies like Amazon and Google.
On Friday Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social he was terminating all trade discussions with Canada because of the tax.
Liberals taking ‘fresh’ look at online harms bill, justice minister says
Justice Minister Sean Fraser says the federal government plans to take a "fresh" look at its online harms legislation over the summer but it's not clear yet exactly what the bill will look like when it is reintroduced.
It would be the Liberals' third attempt to pass legislation to address harmful behaviour online.
Fraser told The Canadian Press in an interview that the government hasn't decided whether to rewrite or simply reintroduce the Online Harms Act, which was introduced in 2024 but did not pass.

Niverville Council gives green light to town's tallest building
At a packed Town Council meeting held Tuesday, June 17, Niverville Council officially approved what will become the tallest building in town, a six-storey mixed-use development, located at #400 and #500 Drover’s Run. The vote came after a public hearing that saw both support and opposition from residents, and raised wider concerns about how the town wants to manage future growth.
Start of summer means start of U-pick season
Berry lovers will be happy to hear that the U-pick season has now started.
Across the Prairies, strawberry U-pick seasons typically start in early July. Raspberries and Saskatoons are then often available from late July through August.
Andy Loewen is the owner of Friedensfeld Honey and Berry Farm, located east of Friedensfeld in Manitoba. He says their strawberry U-pick season officially got underway on Friday. An opening day of June 27th is a little bit earlier than normal for their farm.

U13 Steinbach Storm coach thrilled with season and playoff success
It was a great year for the U13 Steinbach Storm and they capped it all off by marching through playoffs and bringing home the gold.
Coach Paul Turenne says personally, this year was magical. "It was my first time coaching my youngest daughter, so that was an experience," he says with a laugh. "Also, first time coaching with my wife, Tara. I mean, we had a blast coaching my daughter and some of her closest friends. We had four majors playing on our team and eight minors. They were just a bunch of fun girls to coach and it was a blast to do it along side Tara."
