Manitoba Tory loses critic duties but remains in caucus after ethics probe
Manitoba Opposition leader Obby Khan stripped a Progressive Conservative caucus member of his critic duties Thursday, as questions continued to swirl about the former government’s actions related to a proposed silica sand mine.
Jeff Wharton, one of three Tories found this week to have violated the province's conflict of interest law, is to remain in caucus but will no longer serve as critic for business, mining, trade and job creation.
"I have removed his critic role in light of this report that came out ... and we'll move forward from there," Khan said.

Canada Post union calls for halt to overtime as deadline passes with no agreement
The union representing about 55,000 Canada Post employees has called for a countrywide halt to overtime work, saying its negotiators will continue to review the latest contract offers from the mail carrier.

Over $194 Million in Funding Secured for University of Saskatchewan’s Veterinary College
The University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) has secured over $194 million in funding, to be delivered over the next five years. This renewed interprovincial funding commitment from Manitoba, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan has been in place for over 60 years.
Through the agreement, WCVM provides essential veterinary medicine programming, research, and clinical services to meet the needs of each province. Saskatchewan and Manitoba each have 25 student seats, while British Columbia funds 40 seats.

Manitoba Hydro is dealing with an unplanned outage that is affecting the north end of Steinbach, stretching up to PR 311.
The power outage was reported shortly after 5:30 Thursday evening and it is affecting 621 Manitoba Hydro customers.
The cause of the outage is not known at this time.

100-year-old donations tell story of war and survival in stitches
At first glance, it looks like a simple child’s apron and a modest wall hanging. But in the curator's room at the Mennonite Heritage Village Museum (MHV) in Steinbach, these newly donated artifacts are telling a remarkable story of survival, war, migration, and resilience.
“So this was a donation that just came to MHV at the end of last month,” says Andrea Klassen, Senior Curator at the museum. “It’s our most recent one, and the history of it dates back to the Mennonite migration that came to Canada after World War II.”
