King Charles III will have a chance to try Saskatchewan made products

The Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre, and her husband, Mr. Rich McIntyre had a private audience with King Charles today at Buckingham Palace.

Their Honours presented the King with lentil and chickpea snacks from the Three Farmers company of Saskatoon. Saskatchewan is a major producer of pulse crops.

A jar of Savoury Dill Pickle Mustard from Gravelbourg Mustard. The province is the world’s largest exporter of mustard seed.

Whiteshell Provincial Park closure announced for Thursday

Our province has announced the closure of Whiteshell Provincial Park. The move will happen Thursday due to extreme fire conditions in eastern Manitoba and out of an abundance of caution to help ensure the safety of Manitoba. 

It says all access to Whiteshell Provincial Park will be restricted beginning at 9 am. This includes all public and private developed areas in Whiteshell Provincial Park including cottage subdivisions, commercial areas, campgrounds, group use, day use, and all recreational areas including trails, beaches, backcountry areas, canoe routes, and campsites.

Alberta now has 23 per cent of the 2025 crop in the ground

Alberta's Agriculture Financial Services Corporation put together the first crop report of the season. 

Manglai a product coordinator with AFSC, says provincially there's now 23 per cent of the 2025 crop is now in the ground, thawhich t's well ahead of the 5-year average of 12 per cent, and the 10-year average of 14 per cent.

"Regionally - the South leads with 50 per cent of all crops seeded, followed by the Central Region at 22 per cent, the Peace Region at 10 per cent, the North West at 8 per cent, and the North East at 6 per cent."

Police recover two bodies from Lac du Bonnet wildfire

Police have recovered the bodies of two adults, believed to have died as the result of wildfires in the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet. 

On Wednesday at approximately 9:15 am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP recovered two bodies, believed to be an adult male and adult female, just off Wendigo Road. It is believed that both adults succumbed to injuries sustained in the wildfire.

RCMP were made aware on Tuesday that these individuals were trapped in the fire. However, due to extreme conditions, emergency personnel were not able to reach their location until Wednesday. 

Fourth community in RM of Piney evacuated due to wildfire

An evacuation order is now in effect for the townsite of Badgar in the Rural Municipality of Piney as crews continue to battle an ongoing wildfire dubbed EA057. 

This latest evacuation order was issued at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The municipality asks residents leaving Badger to travel south on the 203 towards Piney, then head to the evacuee reception site at the Woodridge Community Club.

Manitoba broadens measles vaccine eligibility

Manitoba is broadening eligibility for the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. 

This comes as the result of the number of measles cases continuing to rise in our province. Vaccine eligibility now includes infants from six months to under 12 months of age, living in Southern Health-Sante Sud and the Interlake Eastern Regional Health Authority.

This vaccine is also now available to children aged six months to under 12 months of age, who travel regularly to and have close contact with residents from either of these two health regions.

Fire destroys home near Grunthal

A home near Grunthal was torched by flames on Tuesday.

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says his crews were called out at 5:20 pm to a structure fire 1.5 miles southeast of Grunthal. He notes firefighters arrived to find flames coming through the roof.

"The structure was fully involved," he says. 

According to Wiebe, the homeowner was able to safely vacate the home, along with a dog. He notes there were no injuries.

Goose attack at A.D. Penner Park prompts safety warning

A Canada goose nesting at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach has been aggressively defending its nest, according to a local woman who was attacked while walking near the area. 

Kimberly Sawatzky says she was walking near the soccer fields when the goose charged at her, flew over her head, and began pecking at her. 

“I was trying to get to the ground to get away from it, but it was pretty angry,” she said. 

Zhoda man faces impaired driving charges after weekend rollover

A man from Zhoda has been arrested for impaired driving following a crash over the weekend that resulted in one person being flown to hospital. 

On Saturday, shortly after midnight, Emerson RCMP responded to a side-by-side rollover in the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn. Officers responded immediately along with Emergency Medical Services and the local fire department.

Police say the passenger of the side-by-side, a 19-year-old male from the RM of St. Andrews was ejected. He was transported to hospital by STARS air ambulance, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Grain’s supply and demand ratio finds balance

Production is expected to recover by 70 million tonnes due to favourable conditions, while demand will rise by 45 million tonnes

SASKATOON — The global grain outlook for 2025-26 is incredibly balanced, says an analyst.

The International Grains Council (IGC) is forecasting 2.373 billion tonnes of production and an identical 2.373 billion tonnes of demand.

“We’re looking at quite a finely balanced fundamental picture for grains,” Helen Plant, senior analyst for the United Kingdom’s Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, said in a recent webinar.
