Sports Round-Up: Monday, November 18

While the Moose Jaw Warriors took the weekend off, general manager Jason Ripplinger was working overtime, making a number of trades.

The team announced yesterday that defenceman Kalem Parker was traded to the Calgary Hitmen for 15-year-old forward Nathan Gardiner, as well as three draft picks. The Warriors announced Friday the acquisition of 18-year-old defenceman Ryder Ellis and two draft picks from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for 19-year-old defenceman Vojtech Port. The Warriors also added overage defenceman Keaton Dowhaniuk.

Snow possible for Moose Jaw if eastern winter storm watch shifts track

Moose Jaw is sitting on the edge of a winter storm system bringing freezing rain, heavy snow, and gusty winds to eastern Saskatchewan. 

“Right now, we’re not looking at too much in Moose Jaw – we just have a pop of some flurries for Monday night, and for today just a pop of some showers,” said Shannon Moodie, meteorologist with Environment Canada. 

'Evening Around the World' multicultural celebration fills St. Andrew's once again

The Moose Jaw Multicultural Council (MJMC) held its 8th annual Evening Around the World fundraiser last Friday, drawing hundreds to the basement hall at St. Andrew’s United Church (home of the MJMC) to eat Syrian Tabouleh and Ecuadorian Ceviche, watch Colombian and Kuduro style dancing, and enjoy musical performances from cultures like Vietnam and Nigeria. 

Acclaimed Assiniboia mayor lays out priorities for second term

There were no new names put forward for the positions of mayor and city council in Assiniboia's municipal election this year, leading to the election by acclamation of all seven incumbents for the small town’s (pop. 2,300) council. 

Acclaimed for another four years were mayor Sharon Schauenberg, and councilors Renaud Bissonnette, Reneé Clermont, Robert Ellert, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, and Kris Olson.
