Saskatchewan Highway Patrol seizes over $1.1 million in illegal tobacco

Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers made a critical stop on a Saskatchewan highway that led to the seizure of $1.1 million in illegal tobacco products. A government release indicates approximately 1.9 million unstamped cigarettes were discovered, and the driver of the truck carrying the contraband was taken into custody.  

"Touch A Truck" returns for its second year on Saturday

FCAA Partners with CRA for Debt Recovery Program Using Tax Refunds and Benefits

On August 21, the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority (FCAA) announced its participation in the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) Individual Refund Offset Program. The program allows the FCAA to recover outstanding debts owed to the Crown through an individual’s tax refunds and other benefits. 

Campfire safety tips heading into the long weekend

With the Labour Day long weekend upon us, many will be heading to campgrounds and starting up a campfire.

While campfires can be a fun part of the camping experience, it doesn’t come without its risks. Safety precautions should be taken so the fire doesn’t get out of control. 

Moose Jaw Fire Department Public Education Officer Cathie Bassett said, that before you even start your fire, make sure that there are no fire bans in place. 

Saskatchewan sheds 5,700 jobs from June to July

July has been a rough month on the jobs front in Saskatchewan, according to Statistics Canada. The province lost 5,700 jobs in total, 5,200 of which were full-time, from the previous month.  Manitoba and Saskatchewan have the dubious distinction of shedding jobs, while employment numbers were up in Alberta, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, notes the Stats Canada website.  

Canadians now blocked from seeing news on Facebook

Discovering news articles, photos and videos on Facebook and Instagram will soon become a relic of the past, as Meta has begun ending news availability in Canada. 

Already many Facebook and Instagram users in Moose Jaw and the southwest have noticed they no longer have access to posts from Discover Moose Jaw, 800 CHAB, MIX 103.9 FM, and COUNTRY 100.7 FM .  

NDP criticizes government handling of homeless situation as Sask Housing vacancies skyrocket

The Opposition NDP is expressing concerns about the provincial government’s handling of homelessness in cities and rural communities outside Regina and Saskatoon. The criticism, levelled by NDP Leader Carla Beck and Opposition Housing Critic Meara Conway, comes in light of documents obtained from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. Those documents show high vacancy rates for social housing at a time when municipalities have put out alerts about a growing homeless population.
