Kenora City Council apologized and offered a solution to the Keewatin Medical Clinic situation.
After weeks of uncertainty for the doctors of the Keewatin Medical Clinic (KMC), Kenora City Council has come to a conclusion on the fate of the building that houses the practice.
Kenora’s Koch, Van Belleghem run for Council
Two Kenora residents have put their names forward to lead the community as City Councillors for the first time.
Lindsay Koch and Kelsie Van Belleghem both filed their nomination papers for the 2022 Municipal Election on June 20, and now join incumbent councillor Graham Chaze in the official election race. Biographies or photos for the two were not made available at this time.
National Indigenous Peoples Day was a huge success in Kenora
Yesterday was National Indigenous Peoples Day and Kenora was host to a day full of activities and events.
The day was organized by the Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA), Grand Council Treaty #3 (GCT3), and the Ne-Chee Friendship Centre at a property on Strecker Road.

Sports Update June 22
St. Thomas Aquinas High School hosted the 7/8 All Catholic Soccer Championships yesterday. Sacred Heart from Sioux Lookout and St. Joseph’s from Dryden traveled to Kenora to take on the SAINTS. T.A split their squad into two teams for the championship, and both went undefeated during round-robin play resulting in them going head to head for Gold. It was the T.A black team came out on top over the red.
Storm Watch issued for Kenora, Grassy areas
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the Kenora and Grassy Narrows areas.
Environment Canada warns that clusters of thunderstorms with high winds are expected to develop this afternoon or tonight, with up to 90 km/h winds. The storms are expected to begin near the Manitoba border and move eastward.
Environment Canada adds that strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off of trees and overturn large vehicles, so residents should be prepared for severe weather.
Developing: house fire in Keewatin blocks off road access
Emergency responders are on the scene of a house fire on May Avenue in Keewatin.
One entrance to Keewatin has been blocked off, just off of the bridge. Kenora OPP has said there will be no access for local residents while they are on scene.
The OPP says no injuries have been reported.

Events continue to honour Treaty #3 history, culture
The northwestern Ontario and Treaty #3 communities are set to come together and take a step towards reconciliation today as we collectively honour the region’s culture, history and heritage on National Indigenous Peoples Day.
June 21 Sports Update
In Kenora baseball action, the CarStar Rockies took out the Legends 26 to 6.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are on the board in the Stanley Cup final. Steven Stamkos, Pat Maroon and Ondrej Palat each had a goal and an assist in a 6-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche last night.
The two-time defending champion Lightning needed the win after dropping the first two games of the series in Denver. Game four goes tomorrow night in Florida at 7 p.m.
Kenora bridge delays this week
Kenora residents should expect some delays over the next three days.
The City of Kenora would like to advise the public that there will be delays on a number of municipal bridges to accommodate bridge inspections.
