Parts of First Ave S closed Tuesday
Motorists could experience delays in some parts of Kenora on Tuesday (May 24, 2022), as the city is advising residents that First Avenue South between Third Street South and Fourth Street South is closed
The closure is needed to allow city crews to remove the temporary granular surface starting on Tuesday, in preparation for rehabilitation works expected to begin later this week.
The street will remain closed until the contractor completes the rehabilitation work. Local traffic will be permitted.

Delays along Second Street South today
Delays should be expected today (Tuesday, May 24, 2022) as crews conducted work ahead of the sewer and water reconstruction work on Second Street South.
Delays along Second Street South, from Fifth Avenue South to Seventh Avenue South, will occur from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today.
This will allow Titan Contractors to conduct test hole drilling.
Road and highway update - May 24
As of 6:00 am Tuesday, May 24:
Blue Lake Loop Road – Vermilion Bay, between Hwy 647 Jct and Quibell Rd is closed. Traffic control in place. Use extreme caution in the area.
Quibell Road is closed, between Hwy 647 and Hwy 609. No transports are allowed, Passenger vehicles only. Signage in place. Use extreme caution.
Highway 105, from Highway 17 to Highway 609, is fully closed due to water over the road.
Sports Update May 24
Kenora's Jeff "Gussy" Gustafson had a decent weekend as he finished in 24th place at the 2022 Simms Bassmaster Elite at Lake Fork in Texas. Gussy caught 15 fish over three days for a total weight of 63 lbs 3 ozs, including an eight-pound bass on Day Three which won him "Big Bass of the Day." Gustafson is now off to the 2022 Whataburger Bassmaster Elite at Pickwick Lake in Tennessee which begins on June 2.
School bus delays and cancellations - Tuesday, May 24
Flooding across the region is continuing to impact school bus routes.
The following routes have cancelled stops or delays on Tuesday, May 24.
Kenora
- KN13, KN15, & KN88 – all stops north of the Kenora By-pass (Hwy. 17A) will be cancelled due to flooding and road closures.
Red Lake
- RL6 – stops on Dupont Drive and Young Street east of Chelsea Street will be cancelled due to conditions on Young Street.

The decision to stay in an evacuation zone is never an easy one and it comes with its own set of challenges.
Chantal Tycholiz and her family made the decision to stay in their home when the evacuation order was issued on Friday, May 13.
"We're a family of four with pets, and I didn't think my 120 pound dog would be accepted at the [Evacuation Shelter]," said Tycholiz noting that her home wasn't at risk of flooding.
Expanded Closure, Evacuation in northern area of Whiteshell Provincial Park
Manitoba Environment, Climate and Parks is advising of a mandatory evacuation order and expanded closure area in the northern portion of Whiteshell Provincial Park effective May 24, 2022. Manitoba Parks continues to co-ordinate with Emergency Measures Organization and Manitoba Hydro in its preparedness and response.

As of 5:00 am Monday, May 23:
Flooding on HWY 71 Northbound at Mayburn Road has closed one lane. Traffic control is in place.
Quibell Road is closed, between Hwy 647 and Hwy 609. No transports are allowed, Passenger vehicles only. Signage in place. Use extreme caution.
Blue Lake Loop Road to Quibell Road is restricted to local traffic due to flooding.
Highway 105, from Highway 17 to Highway 609, is fully closed due to water over the road.
