Police are seeking the public’s help with the ongoing homicide investigation of 42-year-old Raymond Land in Wabaseemoong Independent Nation.

Officers with the OPP and Treaty Three Police Service are requesting that anyone who was present at the scene of Cameron’s Loop on Thursday, October 27 and may have taken photographs or videos to contact them at tips@t3ps.ca immediately.

Unexpectedly on October 27th, Joanne Patricia Merle Zeemel (nee Puhach) passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.  She is predeceased by her Mother Frances Puhach (nee Kantor), Father John Puhach and her Husband John Zeemel. She is survived by her sister Connie (Jim) Adlington, Daughters Pamela Loeb and Jennifer (Marco) Vogrig along with her grandchildren Lauren (Peter), RJ, Mason and Ashley and many nieces and nephews.

Even with today’s promise of Bill 28 getting repealed by the Ontario government, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees are reminding the province that their fight isn’t over yet.

While Ontario plans to repeal the Act – which made strike-action illegal for protesters with threats of $4,000 fines – the two parties still need to resume wage negotiations and find common ground.

St. Thomas Aquinas Saint, Colby Wallace, is back home after competing at the OFSAA Cross Country Championships.

Wallace finished the 6-kilometre race with a time of 24 minutes and 33 seconds. The first and second-place finishers finished with 19 minutes and 7 seconds, but places were determined by 29 milliseconds - a first in OFSAA Cross Country history. 

Overall Wallace says it was a great experience, especially in his Grade 12 year at TA.

Leadership with the Canadian Union of Public Employees says they have accepted Ontario’s offer to repeal Bill 28 – ending strike action for over 50,000 education workers across the province.

Schools in Ontario are expected to resume normal operations by November 8.

This all comes after Ontario Premier Doug Ford pledged to repeal the bill, the Keeping Students in Class Act – which made strike-action illegal for members after failed negotiations – if CUPE came back to the negotiating table.

It was a heated municipal election campaign in the region and that looks to have shown in the polls.

With preliminary data, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario says northwestern Ontario seems to have recorded the top #3 highest voting turnouts across the province in the 2022 Municipal Election.

Brad Gushue put a flourish on his team's dominant curling to become the first men's Pan Continental champion on Sunday.

To inject levity in a lopsided 11-3 win over South Korea in the final, Canada's skip weaved his final stone of the eighth end under his front leg and delivered it outside of his knee for a trick shot.

"I've done it a lot in clinics and stuff like that and shown kids," Gushue said. "Usually I can hit the rings, but I'm a little disappointed it went through there. Epic fail."

WestJet says a system-wide outage is impacting its operations, resulting in "growing delays" across its network and cancellations.

The Canadian airline says its contact centre is unable to access guest reservations as a result of the outage.

WestJet says it's working to restore service to its system, though it hasn't provided a reason for the outage.

Calgary International Airport says in a tweet that guests flying through its airport may be delayed "due to a WestJet global IT outage." 

It says guests should check with their airline for flight information.

Legend has it that when Canadian troops stormed ashore under a hail of German gunfire at the French port of Dieppe in August 1942, one of the hundreds who eventually died in the attack was carrying an old flag.

Exactly how that red and white flag ended up at the Nazi-held French port — and even whether it was definitively there — remains a mystery.

But more than 80 years later, that flag will play a central role in commemorating the doomed raid on Dieppe during this year’s national Remembrance Day ceremony — thanks to three Americans.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 30 shots he faced as the Winnipeg Jets blanked the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Defenceman Josh Morrissey and forward Pierre-Luc Dubois each had a power-play goal and an assist as Winnipeg (7-3-1) improved to 5-0-1 in its last six games. 

Jets defenceman Nate Schmidt also scored on the power play while forward Adam Lowry had his second short-handed goal of the season. 

Arvid Soderblom started in net for Chicago (5-5-2), making 21 saves on 24 shots before being replaced by Dylan Wells to start the third period.
