It is with great sadness and broken hearts to share the passing of Helen Shynkaryk at 3:00 am on December 31, 2021, in the loving arms of her daughter Donna (Gord), and with prayers felt from a distance from her other daughters, Elaine (Gary), Judy and Cyndi (Greg), Mom took her final soft breath and peacefully joined Dad and Gary in Heaven.
Helen was born April 3, 1930 to Antonina and Anthony Oleksuk in Fannystelle, Manitoba. She was the 6th of 9 children and was the last of the Oleksuk clan to leave this world at the oldest age of 91.

With unimaginable sadness we announce the passing of James Roger Kulson on August 13, 2022. James, affectionately known as Jimbo by his many friends, passed peacefully with his wife by his side, at his camp on Black Sturgeon Lake a place close to his heart.
Left to mourn are his wife of 16 years Holly Morris, his sister Janet Smith, cousin Doug (Marion), nieces Barb (Jeff), Debra (Rob) and Susan and great-nieces and nephews Abby (Tyler), Hayden, Lily, Paige and Mason. Jimbo will also be greatly missed by his dogs Minnow and Georgie.

Jamie was born December 18, 1996; she/he made their journey home to the creator on the evening of August 4, 2022. Jamie will be missed by her father Cecil James (Erin) and mother Lisa Strong (Reg Henderson), sister Nevada, brother Commanchee, sisters Kristen and Ansley Sinclair-Henderson and the rest of the family.

Speedway season championship this Sunday
The season championship at Lake of the Woods Speedway is Sunday, August 28, 2022.
The Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds are being led by Brandon Rehill, with Nick Audette a close second in points. The points battle in the 4 cylinders between Kamea Mulholland, Jake Mazur and Brodie McGowan will be decided this weekend and in the WISSOTA Pure Stock class, Alex Mira and Alexander Farr are the top two.
Hot laps are Sunday at 4:00pm with racing at 4:30pm.

Big change coming to Kenora leadership
The 2022 Municipal election is approaching, and Kenora could see a complete transformation in leadership.
The deadline for candidates to file their nominations has passed, which shows three residents up for Mayor, while 15 candidates will vie for City Council.
Kenora will have a new Mayor after Dan Reynard announced his decision to not run in this year's election.
Current City Councillor Andrew Poirier enters the race for Mayor along with Kenora & District Chamber of Commerce President Andy Scribilo and David Byers-Kitt, a Kenora resident of 56 years.
LOTW to drop 10 to 12 cm this week
Last week's heavy rain caused lake levels to stabilize for a day or two, but the drawdown of Lake of the Woods and Lac Seul has resumed.
The Lake of the Woods Control Board says, "weekly [rainfall] totals were well above average ranging from 40 to 75 mm for most areas. This rainfall has caused tributary flows to increase temporarily and lake levels to stabilize for a day or two."
More correctional officers to start at the Kenora Jail
The Kenora Jail is set to receive new correctional officers.
In total, 123 new correctional officers have been hired across Ontario with 32 graduates will work in the Northern Region at the Fort Frances Jail, Kenora Jail, Monteith Correctional Complex, Sudbury Jail and Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.
Of the 32 graduates, five will be working at the Kenora Jail.
“Our government continues to strengthen Ontario’s justice system by hiring more staff to support correctional services,” said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner in a prepared release on Friday.
Deal freeing Catholic entities from $25M campaign for residential schools released
Canada agreed to "forever discharge" Catholic entities from their promise to raise $25 million for residential school survivors and also picked up their legal bill, a final release document shows.
The Canadian Press obtained a signed copy of the 2015 agreement through federal Access-to-Information laws, marking what appears to be the first time the document has been widely publicized.
