March 23rd is World Optometry Day! The theme this year is Eyes to the Future: Optometry Improving Global Wellness.

We sat down with Dr. Shawn Lins and Dr. Marcia Mitschke from Primary Eye Care Centre to talk about its importance. 

“If you cut back on the care, what is the point of even having a care home?” 

Owner and manager Shirley Ann Sellers has worked with the elderly since the age of 19. Familiar with the field, with almost every role under her belt, and with over three decades of experience, Willow Creek Manor is how she’s bringing her ultimate dream to life.  

“They deserve it because they are our lifeline- they earned it.”  

By day, she’s a Chartered Accountant. But the rest of her time is devoted to her love of fashion and design.  

Meet Elizabeth Olatoye, the powerhouse behind Eden Apparel, a Winnipeg-based business providing couture formal gowns and ready-to-wear dresses, alongside fabrics and sewing classes.

For Juli Rohl, founder of Revivis Consulting, it's those challenges that drive her “why”.

It started with one bus. 

Actually, it started when Brandon Floberg and Butch Wright brought out the calculator and added up the money they and other Shaunavon parents were spending to get their kids to and from their tournaments. 

“I thought it was just crazy,” he says. “So we bought a bus from an auction sale and it kind of took off from there.” 

“Over the last three years, we’ve distributed $1.2 million to 150 producers in the area – and we’re very excited to have this funding again for our local producers.”

This from Dani Gosselin, Program Coordinator with the Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District (SRRWD), referencing the Prairie Watershed Climate Program, which has just been renewed for another three years.

It just made sense.

Like a lot of farm kids in southwest Saskatchewan, Jesse Wellsch enjoyed growing up around agriculture and playing in the dirt. As he got older, he also developed an appreciation for the construction industry. Two summer Co-op seasons and a University of Lethbridge degree in Environmental Science later, he was able to merge his core interests at Vitae Environmental Construction Ltd.

“We’re family owned and operated, so we have that invested interest in keeping it going, keeping people happy.”
