Barbara Nolan, an Anishnaabe elder on a mission to promote her nation's language, says she loves to hear stories about how her work is influencing children.

Nolan launched a series of online videos last month to introduce the language — called Anishinaabemowin — to the very youngest members of the community.

Canada to get rare asteroid sample after OSIRIS-REx drops cargo to Earth on Sunday

Seven years after it blasted into space to snag a sample of an asteroid, a spacecraft delivered its rare cargo on Sunday — and Canada is getting a piece of the interstellar bounty.

The NASA-led mission launched OSIRIS-REx into space in 2016 to collect from the surface of an asteroid material that scientists hope will offer them insight into the formation of the solar system. The spacecraft began orbiting the asteroid — called Bennu — in 2018 and grabbed a sample in 2020. 

Child's breathing tube can be removed despite parents' protest: Quebec appeal court

Quebec's Court of Appeal has ruled that a Montreal hospital can permanently remove a breathing tube from a child who has been in a coma since he fell into the family pool in June.

In the decision dated Tuesday, the province's high court affirmed a November Superior Court ruling that permitted the Sainte-Justine hospital to go ahead with the procedure despite the parents' objections. The boy's parents appealed the Superior Court ruling.

'Mishandling and delays' of Montreal archdiocese abuse complaints: ombudsperson

The ombudsperson of Montreal's Roman Catholic archdiocese is highlighting the "mishandling and delays" of abuse cases against the church and says she hopes that by speaking out, it will jolt the organization to act.

Lawyer Marie Christine Kirouack says in her new report that since June, delays in some files have become "interminable" and are causing complainants to lose faith in the process.

In an interview Monday, she said the problems began when she started reviewing older complaints.

Quebec judge authorizes class-action lawsuit against 'addictive' Fortnite video game

A Superior Court judge has authorized a lawsuit brought by Quebec parents who allege their children became addicted to the popular online video game Fortnite.

Justice Sylvain Lussier issued the ruling on Wednesday after hearing arguments in July regarding the class-action request from three parents who described how their children had symptoms of severe dependence after playing the game.

Audit of several Quebec dioceses' records identifies 87 abusers in the church: report

An independent audit of more than 80 years of files involving nine Quebec Catholic dioceses found at least 87 abusers among church personnel, according to a summary of findings released Wednesday.

Retired Superior Court justice André Denis reviewed the files of 6,809 people employed between 1940 and 2021 and uncovered 87 employees who were the subjects of confirmed or well-founded sex abuse allegations involving minors or vulnerable adults.
