Walk With Me Fundraising Campaign a success


The Do More Agriculture Foundation is extremely pleased with its recent "Walk With Me" campaign.

As part of the two-week campaign, BASF matched the first $10,000 raised.

Overall, a total of $40,000 was raised through Do More Agriculture's first-ever Walk with Me campaign.

"Walk With Me" is a global campaign created by U.K. farmer Chris Manley when he was struggling with depression.

Applications are now being accepted for the Drought Livestock Assistance Program

Livestock producers that have been struggling with the drought can now apply for the 2023 Canada-Alberta Drought Livestock Assistance program.

Qualifying producers will have had to change their grazing plans due to the drought for more than 21 days.

Benefits will be based on a feed-need calculation for feed costs incurred from lost grazing days for eligible breeding animals on hand as of Dec. 31, 2023. 

Animals must be breeding animals - females that have been bred between January 1 and December 31, 2023.

Sask. Premier Scott Moe attends grand opening of North 49 Foods in Moose Jaw 

North 49 Foods held the grand opening of their new state-of-the-art sow processing plant in Moose Jaw on Friday morning, with Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, David Marit, Minister of Agriculture, and other Saskatchewan dignitaries in attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.  

The property, which consists of 100 acres of industrial land, was formerly the XL beef plant but was purchased by Donald’s Fine Foods in 2019. Since then, they have refurbished the plant, investing in excess of $60 million into the facility. 

APAS calls for rescinding of amendment to Bill C-234

In a recent release, the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan appealed to Canada's Senators to rectify the recent amendment to Bill C-234, "An Act to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act." 

This call comes in the wake of the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture and Forestry's review, which took place on October 24, leading to an amendment that they say significantly altered the original intent of the bill.

Organizations look to see Canada take action in upcoming COP28 event

The Canadian Cattle Association, along with Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Nature Conservancy of Canada hosted a dialogue on on climate adaptation through sustainable livestock systems.

The event explored bridging the nexus of climate change and biodiversity loss through cross-cutting themes of sustainable production systems and food security as attendees discussed the implications of grassland conversion and sustainable food production as producers feed a growing population.

Some areas see early, thick snowfall from first major winter storm

Federal government puts forward $374,450 for organic resource hub

The Canadian Organic Growers, a charity that looks to support organic farmers, has launched a new resource for farmers.

The Organically Canadian Resource Hub was designed to raise an understanding of the benefits of sustainable agriculture and how consumer choices can make a difference.

COG is receiving up to $374,450 in support for the resource hub through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s AgriCommunication Program. 

That's an $8 million initiative over three years to better connect Canadians with local farmers.

Alberta Grains is the newly formed Commission from the Alberta Wheat and the Alberta Barley Commission.
