The Grain Growers of Canada (GGC) appreciates the work done by Agriculture Ministers across Canada towards reaching an agreement for the next five-year Agricultural Policy Framework, set to begin in 2023.
Morris farmer expects fall rye harvest to start in next week or two
Overall, farmers seem to be pleased with how the crops are progressing.
David Hamblin is with Red River Seeds near Morris.
"All things considered, I think they look quite good. We had a real late start and some big challenges with flooding of course here. Considering the mess we put it into, I think things are looking reasonably well, albeit quite late," he said.
Hamblin was asked if they've had a lot of rain this summer.

Another dry week for the majority of the region has caused some setbacks for crops. Canola experienced heat blasting and all crops have started to go backwards. More rain will be needed to ensure crops can hold on till usual harvest time, a large jump in development will result in poorer yields than producers would like. Some producers will be getting their harvest operations underway soon as they begin to apply desiccants to their fields.

Parts of southeast Saskatchewan experienced excellent growing conditions last week, allowing crops to bounce back from heat stress in previous weeks.
Some parts of the region received more rain, leading to delays in haying and crop development. Weyburn received the most rainfall in the region at 70 millimetres.
Hot and dry conditions are needed in wetter areas to ensure crops are mature enough at harvest time.
