Warriors fall to Blades on Friday; Host rematch Saturday

Saskatoon, SK – For two periods, the Moose Jaw Warriors were a step ahead of the Saskatoon Blades, but the script flipped in the third period.

Saskatoon scored three times in the final frame to skate to a 6-3 win over Moose Jaw on Friday night at SaskTel Centre.

“I thought we played hard for 40 minutes, there was mistakes but overall we didn’t give up and we played hard and then in the third, we just came out flat, they get one early and we took a backseat,” Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk said.

“You live and you learn from that.”

Warriors sign Ripplinger, O’Leary to contract extensions

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors are pleased to announce the signing of General Manager Jason Ripplinger and Head Coach Mark O’Leary to multi-year extensions.

“Continuing to build franchise stability is vital for the Warriors board of directors and we feel we’ve done that with bringing back Jason and Mark,” Bob Dougall, Warriors President and Governor, said.

Ripplinger has served as the Warriors’ general manager for the past four seasons, which includes three straight trips to the Western Hockey League Playoffs and back-to-back 40-win seasons.

Warriors’ win streak ends with shootout loss to Lethbridge

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors fell just short against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday night.

The Warriors saw their seven-game winning streak come to end with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Hurricanes at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“It was a tight checking game… that was playoff hockey out there and we’ve got to get used to it pretty quick, but we got a point and we’ll move on, it wasn’t our greatest game,” WHL leading scorer Jagger Firkus said after the game.

Warriors take out Pats on Friday night

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors returned to the Hangar with a bang on Friday night.

The Warriors secured their seventh straight win, knocking off the Regina Pats, 6-3, at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“It was loud in here and it was an exciting game, putting six up on the board, a couple of breakdowns here and there, but overall I liked our performance,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.

Warriors win sixth straight, shutout Wenatchee on Sunday

Wenatchee, WA – Jackson Unger made 35 saves to backstop the Moose Jaw Warriors to their sixth straight win, knocking off the Wenatchee Wild 3-0 on Sunday.

The Warriors swept their road trip through the U.S. Division for the first time since 1998-99 when the team went 4-0 in the States.

“To win on the road is important, especially going into playoff time, so the confidence to be able to go into different buildings and win on the road, it’s real important,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.

Warriors win fifth straight, double T-Birds on Saturday

Kent, WA – The Moose Jaw Warriors held off a late push from the Seattle Thunderbirds to capture their fifth straight win on Saturday night.

The Warriors continued their march through the U.S. Division with a 4-2 win over the Thunderbirds at the accesso ShoWare Center.

“Not an ideal finish, but at the end of the day, two points in a hard building to play in, the fans were great, the atmosphere was incredible, so it was fun for our guys to experience something like that,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.

Warriors win wild showdown with Silvertips on Friday

Everett, WA – There were ups and downs and numerous momentum swings, but the Moose Jaw Warriors persevered on Friday night.

The Warriors held off the Everett Silvertips for an 8-7 shootout win at the Angel of the Winds Arena.

“It wasn’t the cleanest game we’ve had but found a way to win at the end of the day, pretty exciting game,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.

“There was definitely breakdowns on both sides of the puck from both teams where there was a lot of odd man rushes going the other way, so a bit of a shootout.”

Warriors forward Calvert named WHL Player of the Month for February

Calgary, Alta. –  The Western Hockey League announced today Moose Jaw Warriors forward Atley Calvert has been named WHL Player of the Month for February.

Calvert, 20, recorded 27 points (13G-14A) in 12 games to lead all WHL skaters during the month of February.

The 6-foot, 193-pound hometown product from Moose Jaw found the scoresheet during every single Warriors game in the month of February and is riding an active 17-game point scoring streak, dating back to Wednesday, January 17.

Warriors take out U.S. Division-leading Winterhawks in Portland

Portland, OR – The Moose Jaw Warriors captured two points in a thrilling back-and-forth win over the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday.

The Warriors and Winterhawks traded blows in an exciting game at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum with Moose Jaw coming away with a 4-3 victory over the U.S. Division leaders.

“It was a really fast-paced game, you’ve got two really good teams and everyone was hungry for these points to push for the playoff spots, so it was fast-paced, back-and-forth hockey,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.

Warriors cruise past Americans on Friday

Kennewick, WA – Seven straight goals pushed the Moose Jaw Warriors back into the win column on Friday night.

The Warriors’ offence exploded for nine goals, including six in the second period, on route to a 9-4 win over the Tri-City Americans at the Toyota Center.

“There’s never been a quit in the group on the bench, we always just try to get right back to work and we were able to do that again tonight,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.
