Weed talk going down at Ag Days
It was great to see people face-to-face after years of virtual training sessions. That from Grant Shewfelt of Manitoba Weed Supervisors Association who had a great time at Manitoba Ag Days at the Keystone Centre in Brandon. He says he enjoyed seeing familiar faces and meeting new people, adding they spoke about what weeds they have to deal with throughout the province.
Shewfelt says Mother Nature always finds a way, regardless of whether it's too dry or it's too wet.
Ag Days continues at Keystone Centre
Producers from all over continue to head to the Wheat City as Manitoba Ag Days continues in Brandon at the Keystone Centre.
The Manitoba Beef Producers is just one of many groups taking in the 3-day event and Research and Extension Specialist Melissa Atchison hopes producers will check out their booth.
"Come see what your association is doing for you. We run on your checkoff dollars," says Atchison. "Lobbying, advocacy, outreach, education and research. Come see what we do for you. We have some good pamphlets here for calving season as well as our AGM coming up."
1 person dead after fire destroys Gladstone Hotel
One person is dead following a Christmas morning blaze at a hotel in Manitoba's Central Plains region.
The fire broke out around 1:45 a.m. at a building in the community of Gladstone, Man., according to the Municipality of WestLake-Gladstone Mayor, Daryl Shipman.
The Mayor confirmed to Golden West that there was one fatality in the fire.
The Gladstone Hotel is a complete loss, and neighbouring heritage buildings were damaged.
Oldford honoured to be recognized for volunteerism
Bob Oldford did not expected to receive a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medallion, but he is so grateful that his community thought of him.
Many would know Oldford for his tenure with the Royal Canadian Legion in Portage la Prairie. He was also recognized for the sixteen years he served on the United Way Central Plains board. When he first heard he was being honoured, he didn't believe it.

On Friday, November 25th, Bailee Scott was at her mailbox on the east-end of Portage when a man approached her vehicle, grasping his chest. She rolled down the window a little and he mentioned "heart attack". She had assumed her doors were locked, but before she knew it, he was in her car.
Driver faces nine charges after ramming an RCMP vehicle
A 29-year-old man from the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie is facing many charges after allegedly ramming an RCMP vehicle with a stolen truck.
Portage officers responded to a call around 7:10 a.m. on Friday, September 16th. A member of the public was following what they thought was a stolen vehicle, and called in to make a report. The witness lost view of the vehicle, and officers took over the search. One officer did find the vehicle and it was confirmed to be stolen.

One of the worst storms in Manitoba's history happened on this date 115 years ago.
On August 10, 1907, rain fell in torrents while volleys of hail beat down crops and gardens all across southern Manitoba.

Nature Conservancy of Canada partnering up to help preserve prairie habitat
A lot of work must be done in order for Canada to meet its goal of protecting 25 per cent of its land by 2025.
That's from the Nature Conservancy of Canada, who says our country ended last year at just 13.5 per cent. Director of Conservation for the Manitoba Region, Cary Hamel, says he is optimistic the goal can still be reached, noting he's always amazed by individual acts of conservation by Manitobans.
