Enough is enough

1 Timothy 6:17-19

If there were one great message I could deliver to those who struggle with not having an abundance of this world's goods, it would be this simple yet profound premise for happiness: Great wealth is not related to money! It is an attitude of satisfaction coupled with inner peace, plus a day-by-day, moment-by-moment walk with God. Sounds so right, so good, doesn't it? In our world of more, more, more...push, push, push...grab, grab, grab, this counsel is long overdue. In a word, the secret is contentment.

Livestock producers warned about glyphosate use and animal feed


For years, glyphosate has been one of the most widely used chemicals in agriculture, but the long-term impact of that is now becoming more evident.

It's commonly used as a dry down on crops, but the product is believed to be causing serious health issues in livestock.

During the drought, some producers were forced to bring feed in from other areas to maintain the herd.

Tragically, some of those animals became sick and even died. It was later discovered that some of that feed had been treated with glyphosate during the dry-down period.

The Canadian beef industry is mourning the loss of a key figure.

Charlie Gracey served as General Manager and Executive Vice President of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association from 1970 to 1990.

He's known for several accomplishments, including playing a leading role in developing a new grading system and standardized procedures for packing plants. 

He also helped address key health issues, like the eradication of Brucellosis, and played a key role in the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrives in Normandy to mark 80th anniversary of D-Day

The sky was overcast but the sea was calm as a dark green amphibious vehicle rose up out of the gentle waves in Courseulles-sur-Mer, France, on Monday afternoon. 

On board the restored Second World War-era vehicle, Jim Parks watched the shoreline of Juno Beach approach just as he did on June 6, 1944, as a 19-year-old member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. 

The sea voyage was a surprise for Parks, a 99-year-old Canadian, arranged by Dutch friends who specialize in historical re-enactments. 

Temporary disruption at Beaverlodge Emergency Department

Due to the inability to secure physician coverage the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital emergency department will be temporarily closed the following times:

  • 8 a.m., Wednesday, June 5 to 8 a.m., Friday, June 7

Nursing staff will remain on-site in the Emergency Department providing urgent triage and assessments and referrals for patients to alternate Emergency Departments in neighbouring communities.

Proposed secondary suite recommendations update for City of GP

City Council directed Administration to prepare amendments and bring back further information on the proposed secondary suite changes presented.

At the City Council meeting held June 3, 2024 Council passed the following motions:

·Council direct Administration to prepare amendments to this Bylaw that will require a minimum of 1 parking stall for every secondary suite.

·Council direct Administration to bring back further information regarding garage and garden suites before third reading of this bylaw.

Bank of Canada cuts key interest rate for first time in more than four years

The Bank of Canada marked a major turning point in its fight against inflation on Wednesday as it lowered its key interest rate for the first time in more than four years, making it the first central bank in the G7 to cut rates.

Governor Tiff Macklem says the central bank has more confidence inflation is moving closer to its two per cent target, citing various indicators that suggest price pressures have retreated.
