Statistics Canada says the value of Canadian exports to the United States in 2023 exceeded $594 billion. More than 43 per cent of that came from just six industries: oil and gas extraction, oil and gas refining, auto manufacturing, aluminum production and processing, aerospace and crop and animal production.
A 25 per cent tariff applied across the board would increase the cost of those exports by $148.5 billion.
Manitoba Ag Days 2025 exceeds expectations
The 48th Manitoba Ag Days was considered a huge success again this year.
Teresa Hildebrand, the event's Media Coordinator, said the event drew tens of thousands of visitors over the 3-day event from across the region and beyond. She had their 50/50 jackpot was the largest ever and everyone was very pleased with the event.

No one hurt in Avondale fire
On Tuesday, January 28, around 9:30 AM, the Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to a fire in an abandoned house in Avondale. Flames were visible from the main floor window, and crews began fighting the fire from outside. A search confirmed the house was empty, but the fire had spread to the attic, forcing crews to stay outside for safety.
Fort St John street enforcement team execute drug search warrant on residence
On January 17th 2025, the Fort St John Street Enforcement Team, with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team executed a drug search warrant 8900 block of 77th Street, Fort St John, BC.
The Street Enforcement Team initiated this investigation after observing traffic consistent with drug trafficking, often known as a dial-a-dope operation, linked to the residence.
Given the high-risk nature of the investigation, the RCMP Emergency Response Team was requested to assist with executing the search warrant.
