Seton-Jasper Healthcare Centre ED resumes services

The emergency department (ED) at the Seton-Jasper Healthcare Centre reopened yesterday, August 15, at 9 a.m.

Patient safety and care remain our top priorities, and we are working hard to ensure the community has urgent care available.

No additional services at the Seton-Jasper Healthcare Centre are re-opening at this time. Inpatient admissions are temporarily paused. EMS remains available to the community and will transport patients to nearby facilities as needed.

CEI changes not enough to help farmers according to ag group

The Canadian Entrepreneurs' Incentive program is undergoing some changes, but agriculture groups say that's not enough to help out farmers.

That's meant to help out small business owners with a tax break, but that's been out of reach for many farmers.

Kyle Larkin, the Executive Director at the Grain Growers of Canada, says now that's been changed but it may not be enough.

Vice president of grain for CN Rail David Przednowec says that the current labour situation is taking up a bulk of the current conversation in the industry.

Ukraine can use Canadian military equipment inside Russia, Ottawa says

The federal government says the Ukrainian army can use military equipment provided by Canada inside Russia.

A spokesperson for National Defence says Canada places no geographic restrictions on military equipment donated to Ukraine.

The statement comes after Ukraine launched a surprise military offensive into Russia earlier this month.

The attack is unprecedented for its use of Ukrainian military units on Russian soil.

Ottawa has committed $4 billion in military assistance to Ukraine through 2029.

Bad vibes

Psalm 62

Most noises in church don't bug me. I've heard 'em all. People snoring. Babies crying. Rain falling. Crickets chirping. Sound systems popping. Toilets flushing. Offering and communion plates dropping. Sirens screaming and cars speeding outside. Kids yelling and phones ringing inside. Hymnals hitting a bunch of piano keys. Organists standing up on a foot full of bass notes. Coughing. Sneezing. Blowing. Laughing. Crying. Shouting. Whispering. Gasping. Yawning. Clapping.

'Freedom Convoy' organizer Chris Barber's lawyers make final arguments

Defence lawyers making final arguments on behalf of one of the prominent "Freedom Convoy" organizers are maintaining their client's innocence, with proceedings scheduled to continue next week.

Diane Magas argued before a judge Thursday that her client, Chris Barber, never meant to gridlock Ottawa and that he is not responsible for the actions of convoy participants.

She also said there's an "enormous" amount of material to deal with in the trial and the process has taken more time than expected. The trial began in September 2023 and has faced a number of delays.

That can include managing disease risks wherever they pop up, including from outside sources.

Chelsea Siemens, a livestock and feed extension specialist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, talks about what biosecurity looks like on farms.
