Fires near Sherridon and Nopiming now cover areas larger than Winnipeg

The Manitoba Wildfire Service says the province was reduced to a low-to-moderate fire danger level over the weekend thanks to the rain. However, the northeast area remains under a high-to-extreme fire danger. 

The fire on the east side of Manitoba, stretching from Bird River to Bissett, has grown to 203,720 hectares, five times the size of Winnipeg, and remains out of control. 

Meanwhile, the fire that is threatening Flin Flon and other northern communities is now 307,781 hectares, approximately seven times the size of Winnipeg.

Weaving the future on 'Prairie Star Deck II'

The C2 Centre for Craft in Winnipeg’s Exchange District is inviting viewers on a journey through space, time, and alternate realities in June.  

Prairie Star Deck II is the creation of Edmonton artist AJA Louden, and its unique combinations of fabric and yarn not only harken back to a different time but also conjure ideas of an Afrofuturist world. 

Annual Teddy Bears' Picnic returns this fall to help ease hospital fears for children

The teddy bears picnic is back for another exciting year. 

After a four-year hiatus, the popular event returned last year, celebrating its 35th anniversary. 

Scott McDonald is the chair of the Teddy Bears' Picnic steering committee. He says this year's event will again take place in the fall. 

"It's going to be Sunday, Sept. 7, and it's going to be at the same place it's been for the last number of years, the beautiful Assiniboine Park," said McDonald.

Historic Manitoba church-turned-home up for sale

Manitobans looking for a unique property, look no further.  A former historic church in rural Manitoba is up for sale. 

Built in 1936, the former Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church building, located in Ladywood, Manitoba, has been transformed into a family home and is now on the housing market.

Canada focusing on peace, energy security and new partnerships at G7 meeting: Carney

Canada has unveiled its priorities for the G7 leaders' summit just one week before it gets underway in Alberta as the government defends its decision to invite India to the summit.

Prime Minister Mark Carney's office says Ottawa's top priority for the summit will be strengthening global peace and security, which includes countering foreign interference and transnational crime, as well as improving responses to wildfires.

House fire on Manitoba Avenue sends 2 people to hospital

Two people are in hosptial following a fire Sunday afternoon.

The blaze broke out just before 1:40 p.m. in a single-storey home in thr 100 block of Manitoba Avenue.

The fire was extinguished before crews arrived. However, firefighters still checked over the scene for hot spots.

Everyone in the house evacuated before fire crews arrived. Three people were assessed by paramedics, and two were taken to hospital, one in unstable condition and the other in stable condition. 

It's believed the fire was caused by unattended cooking.
