Early morning fire claims life of cat, leaves two families without a home
A fire early Monday morning has claimed the life of a cat and left two families without a place to live.
Shortly after 3:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to a two-storey home in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.
The house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived and it had spread to a neighbouring home.
Firefighters fought the fire from outside, declaring it under control just over an hour later.
Most residents evacuated before crews arrived. Firefighters also temporarily evacuated some neighbouring homes as a precaution.

Missing Selkirk man safely located
Selkirk RCMP are thanking the public for assistance in locating a missing 40-year-old man.
The male was reported missing to Selkirk RCMP at around 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.
Shortly before 5 p.m. on Oct. 28, RCMP said in a release that he has been safely located.

46-year-old man arrested after woman attacked in dorm room
A 46-year-old man had been arrested after breaking into a dorm at the University of Manitoba and assaulting a female student.
The incident happened around 4:45 a.m. on Friday in a housing complex at the University of Manitoba on Dafoe Rd.
When police arrived, they were met by a woman who reported that while in her suite an intruder entered her room and physically assaulted her. She managed to fight off the suspect calling for help. University Security Services was alerted and police were contacted. The female was treated for injuries and is in stable condition.
