A brand new 26-bed transitional care unit in the North End is now open at Holy Family Home. 

Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara said in a news release. “This new unit will provide high-quality, appropriate level of care to seniors who have left the hospital and are awaiting admission into a personal care home.”

Manitoba's Strongest Man is moving up the ladder. 

After competing in the nationals and taking first place and then second place at Western Canada's Strongest Man, Andrew Langelaar has now punched his ticket to Canada's Strongest Man. 

"This will make me the sixth Manitoban to ever go. So, it's pretty cool," said Langelaar. "It was a two- or three-year timeline goal, not a rookie year timeline goal. So, a little bit overwhelming."

Langelaar says the goal has always been to compete at the highest level possible. 

A 53-year-old man has been charged with five counts of robbery after robbing five convenience stores over four hours. 

Between 12:45 a.m. and 4:47 a.m. on Wednesday, the suspect drove to several convenience stores and demanded money from the cash registers while either armed with a knife or implying he had a weapon. 

In each incident, he left with an undisclosed amount of cash, and in one case, a cordless phone. 

The Winnipeg Police Service says that a missing 33-year-old man has been safely located.

The man was last seen on June 25, 2025, in St. Vital. 

Police had sent out a missing persons notice early on June 26 and then a second notice later in the morning, saying he'd been safely located.

Canada's elections commissioner said Wednesday she has no evidence to suggest the federal election result in April was affected by foreign interference, disinformation or voter intimidation — even though the volume of complaints about the campaign shot way up.

In a preliminary report, Commissioner Caroline Simard said her office received more than 16,000 complaints about the spring campaign that ended on April 28 — seven times the number of complaints received in the 2019 and 2021 elections.

Sen. Patrick Brazeau is said to be recovering after collapsing on the Senate floor on Wednesday in the midst of debate on the federal government's major projects bill.

Brazeau, 50, rose to speak shortly after 4 p.m. before falling over sideways onto the floor.

A Senate spokesman says Brazeau appears to be recovering following an examination by paramedics.

The Catholic Health Association of Manitoba (CHAM) is focusing on an upcoming project that is looking to bring teens and seniors together, combating loneliness in both groups. 

"CHAM is kind of the conduit between the church and the health care facility, to make sure the health care facility that is a member of CHAM, continues to bring the Catholic health care to the community," says the CEO of CHAM, Gladys Hrabi. 

CHAM is hoping to start a new project called 'Bridging Connections.'
