May’s Classroom of the Month took the Country 104.9 crew to Norman Carter Elementary School, where Ms. McJannet’s Grade 5 class enjoyed pizza from Jack’s Pizza in Unity and a few rounds of games. Students showed off their knowledge of current events and flexed their drawing skills on new hand-held whiteboards, all while guessing how much pizza they could eat.
Wildfires force cancellation of 75-year Fire Chiefs Conference in Kindersley
KINDERSLEY, Sask. — The Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs has cancelled its 75th Anniversary Fire Chiefs Conference, originally set to take place in Kindersley from June 5 to 7, in response to the provincewide wildfire emergency.
Mike Kwasnica, president of the association, announced the decision Tuesday morning, citing the ongoing state of emergency and the strain on emergency services across the province.
RCMP arrest suspect in Kerrobert property crime investigation; call for public help
KERROBERT, Sask. — Kindersley RCMP say a suspect has been arrested following an overnight operation targeting property crime in the Kerrobert area.
In a late-night message to the community, Staff Sgt. Andrews confirmed officers located a suspect around 1 a.m. Tuesday who was allegedly breaching court-ordered curfew conditions and found in possession of break-and-enter tools.
The suspect was scheduled to appear in Kindersley Provincial Court at 10 a.m. Tuesday. RCMP say they are seeking a remand.
Saskatchewan RCMP charge man with first-degree murder in death near Cut Knife
CUT KNIFE, Sask. — A 41-year-old man from Sweetgrass First Nation has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of a man east of Cut Knife over the weekend.
On May 31 at about 2 a.m., Cut Knife RCMP responded to a report of a serious assault in a field off Highway 40, east of the community.
Battlefords RCMP seize suspected fentanyl, charge Saskatoon man with trafficking
NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. — A Saskatoon man is facing drug trafficking charges after Battlefords RCMP seized a large quantity of suspected fentanyl during an arrest last week.
On May 30 around 12:10 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance along 100th Street in North Battleford, where they located an adult male, RCMP said in a Tuesday news release.
The man initially provided officers with a name that matched an individual wanted on outstanding warrants. He was arrested, but police later discovered he had given a false identity.
Semi drivers around Biggar under scrutiny for engine break use
The Biggar RCMP had a message for truck drivers in their latest report. Residents along busy highway corridors know the sound of engine brakes, or "jake brakes" all too well, and with it becoming a common problem lately around Biggar, the local RCMP chimed in to try and put a stop to it.
RCMP believe missing B.C. teen may be travelling through Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan RCMP are asking for the public's help in locating a missing B.C. teenager who may be travelling through the Prairie provinces, including Saskatchewan.
Fifteen-year-old Jaxsen Swain was last seen on the night of May 17 near the 300 block of Wale Road in Colwood, B.C., on Vancouver Island. He was reported missing the following day.
West Shore RCMP updated the case on June 2, saying investigators now believe the teen may be moving between British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
