Estevan athletes make impact at Special Olympics Saskatchewan Summer Games bowling event, swimming next
With swimming events set for June 6 and 7 in Swift Current, the Special Olympics Saskatchewan Summer Games are underway, and athletes from Estevan are making the most of the opportunity.
The city’s 10-pin bowling team competed this past weekend in Regina, marking their first appearance at the Games in several years. Coach Jackie Thul said the team was thrilled to be back and proud to represent their community.
“They all did amazing,” Thul said. “This gives us a strong starting point, and we’ll keep practicing over the next four years to be ready for the next Games.”

Estevan lawyer Kathryn Gilliss appeared by phone on behalf of Mason Strutt.
Strutt is facing one count of sexual assault in Moose Jaw. He is also facing charges in Regina, including uttering threats, assault, animal cruelty, and causing a person to take a noxious substance.

Wildfires continue in northern Saskatchewan despite recent rain
Work is continuing on getting wildfires in Saskatchewan's north controlled, with the latest update from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
As of Yesterday afternoon, around 10-15 thousand people have been evacuated, with 30 communities seeing residents flee the fires. In northern Saskatchewan, 27 wildfires are currently raging, with six of those uncontained, another six contained, 12 undergoing assessment, and three protecting values. The total year-to-date number for wildfires is 246, nearly doubling the five-year average of 138.
