Mild weather arrives just in time for the start of the school year

The forecast for the first week back to school is looking bright after the overcast start to Tuesday.

Kids will be able to walk to school with a cooler start in the mornings, with daytime highs peaking in the low 20s, probably only hitting 22 at the highest.

According to Dan Fulton, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, there isn't too much to worry about in the week ahead as far as weather.

"Looking fairly dry, but smoke might be an issue for much of the week," said Fulton. "We're kind of in either northerly winds or kind of light winds."

Smoke continues to hamper Swift Current air quality

Swift Current is currently at a nine on the Air Quality Health Index.

The local smoke in the area has reduced air quality to a point where an alert for the region has come into effect.

Residents are advised to limit their exposure outdoors, and to take breaks indoors when possible if being outside cannot be avoided.

Symptoms from the smoke may include a cough, nose, throat, and eye irritation, or a headache.

More severe symptoms like wheezing, chest pains, or a more forceful cough should result in seeking medical aid.

Cypress House halfway to fundraising goal

A fundraising project at Cypress House has officially reached the halfway mark.

The end goal for this project is the purchase of an upgraded blood pressure machine for residents, similar to the one seen in the emergency room at Cypress Regional Hospital.

The aging machines that Cypress House currently has do not accurately reflect the full spectrum of care needed by some residents.

Which is why the donation project was created a year ago.
