55+ games officially open in Swift Current yesterday
The Saskatchewan Senior Fitness 55+ Provincial Games officially opened yesterday in Swift Current.
"With that I would now open the games for 2025," said SSFA President Al Gabert in front of a large crowd at the InnovationPlex curling rink for the opening ceremony.
Almost 400 participants attended the ceremony which included the teams all marching in together and a supper.
Gabert was impressed after the first day.
Summer programming over at the Swift Current Museum
The Swift Current Museum has wrapped up its summer programming schedule for the year.
With different themes each week, and a total of 31 days of family-centric educational fun, the Museum is looking back at all the fun had.
Crystal Ljunggren, education coordinator for the Museum, was thrilled to host over 740 children and their families during the summer.
"It was a fantastic summer," said Ljunggren. "We also had 100 families come in on Ranger (the buffalo)'s (74th) birthday on August 15th."

Two major road projects completed in Assiniboia
The Government of Saskatchewan announced the completion of two major road and sidewalk replacement projects.
Work has wrapped up on a $10.6 million partnership project to repave nearly five kilometers of roads in Assiniboia. This includes the repaving of Highway 2 (also known as Empire Road and Centre Street), and Highway 13 (also known as First Avenue West and First Avenue East).
WSA meeting the possible starting point for new talks with cabin owners at Duncairn Reservoir
The Water Security Agency hosted a meeting in Swift Current, offering some informational sessions for people to learn more about irrigation at the Duncairn Reservoir.
Patrick Boyle, spokesperson for the WSA, and other officials from the agency, hosted the session at the Paliser Pavilion in Kinetic Park. Various experts were present to address the concerns they have heard over the last two years from the local community regarding the possibility of expanding irrigation access at the reservoir.
Dale Dickie
Dickie, Dale Ross, age 76, of Pennant, Saskatchewan passed away Friday, August 22, 2025 at Clover House in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Pennant Hotel from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Dale was predeceased by his parents. Dale is survived by partner, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, and numerous extended family.
Special thanks to the doctors, staff at the hospital, Clover House, and home care. They treated Dale with dignity, compassion and kindness.
Southwest motocross racers tackle SMA's Rounds 8 & 9
Local motocross racers made the trip to Lloydminster this past weekend for Rounds 8 and 9 of the Saskatchewan Motocross Association's Provincial Championship Series.
The Swift Current Motocross Association sent half a dozen racers to go head-to-head with competitors from across the province.
Swift Current's Eden Kroeker secured second place in the Open Beginner class on both days.

Farmland a buyers’ market?
The farmland market in Saskatchewan may be tilting toward the buyer.
It’s not there yet because sellers still have the upper hand, but real estate agents in the province say more land may soon come up for sale, thus tipping the scales in favour of buyers.
As of August 2025, 265 farmland properties were posted on the MLS system in Saskatchewan. That’s down drastically from 2020, when the number of farms for sale was close to 500.
