Louise Friesen, 96, of Winnipeg formerly of Crystal City, passed away Tuesday, May 27th at Winnipeg. She is survived by 2 daughters, 4 sons, 1 sister, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband George, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and 1 grandson.
The funeral service for Louise Friesen will be held Saturday, May 31st at 1:30pm at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford Street, with burial prior to the service at Sage Creek Cemetery.

Sarah Fehr, 76, of La Salle formerly of Gretna, passed away Friday, May 23rd at St. Boniface Hospital. She is survived by her husband Elmer, children Michael (Chantelle), Kristine, Kelly, and Kelsey; her grandchildren Zachary, Nathaniel, Zoe, Emma, Benjamin, and Alexander; her brother Jake and sister Tina (John); along with many nieces and nephews. Sarah is pre-deceased by her parents Johann and Maria Guenter; her brothers Cornie, Peter, John, and Abe; and her sisters Maria, Judith, and Mary.
From Brandon’s Classrooms to the Campaign Trail: Stephen Reid joins Spruce Woods Byelection for Liberal Party
Brandon resident and high school teacher, Stephen Reid, is the newest candidate in the race for the Spruce Woods byelection representing the Liberal Party of Manitoba.
Reid has been a teacher for 21 years and currently instructs at Vincent Massey in the field of Canadian civics and business leadership. He has also taught overseas in Abu Dhabi, Ukraine and Mexico.
From Late Nights to Spotlights: BU celebrates the Class of 2025 today and tomorrow
Brandon University (BU) will confer degrees to nearly 600 new graduates during two days of Convocation celebrations this week.
The occasion will be split into four ceremonies at BU’s Healthy Living Centre:
Graduates from the Faculty of Science and School of Music will receive their degrees during Thursday’s 10 a.m. ceremony. At 2 p.m. the Faculty of Education ceremony will take place.
Friday’s slate features the Faculty of Healthy Studies at 10 a.m, followed by the Faculty of Arts at 2 p.m.
Souris Cardinals ready to take flight in SWBL
The Souris Cardinals are ready for another season in the South West Baseball League and new manager Clark King is excited for what the year can bring.
After a long wait, the Cardinals got their season underway and King says they're ready to go. "We're feeling good, the players have been great getting things organized, so it's been an easy task for me so far. We have lots of young players, a good combination of older and younger players, it's been good."
CBSA says 67 per cent of drugs seized in month-long operation were coming into Canada
More than 67 per cent of the drugs seized during a month-long cross-country Canada Border Services Agency operation were coming into Canada from the United States, the agency says.
Operation Blizzard took place from Feb. 12 to March 13 and targeted illegal drugs and precursor chemicals transported by mail, air cargo or marine container, the CBSA said in a news release Wednesday. The agency said it focused on shipments going to the United States.
Honouring the Mentors: BU Convocation celebrates Educators behind the Grads
Brandon University’s (BU’s) Convocation ceremonies this week will feature recognition for the outstanding educators who pave the way for student achievement.
While conferral of degrees to BU graduates is foundation of Convocation, the four ceremonies on Thursday and Friday will also be an opportunity to recognize the outstanding work of several educators.

Carney grilled on U.S. tariffs in his first question period in House of Commons
Prime Minister Mark Carney fielded questions about the trade war with the United States and his decision to delay the federal budget to the fall as he faced his first question period grilling in the House of Commons Wednesday.
Conservative House leader Andrew Scheer welcomed Carney to the House before launching into a question about Canada's response to U.S. tariffs.
"This is where democracy lives, and this is where we provide rigorous scrutiny on every word he says and every dollar he spends," Scheer said.
