Manitoba's Tyler Fulton new President of CCA
Manitoba farmer Tyler Fulton is the new President of the Canadian Cattle Association. The Birtle area cattle producer moved into the role during the organization's recent annual meeting in Ottawa.
"Well, I'm excited," shared Fulton. "I'm a little tentative just given the political environment and the geopolitical environment and the reliance on trade. Overall, I feel well prepared, well supported, and so in that sense I'm excited to take on the challenge, and do my best to just represent cattle producers across the country with all the sectors covered off."

Provincial Minimum Wage to Increase to $16 on Oct. 1
Manitoba Labour and Immigration is notifying Manitobans the provincial minimum wage will increase by 20 cents to $16, effective Oct. 1.
Updated annually, Manitoba’s minimum wage is regulated through the Employment Standards Code. This year’s increase of 20 cents per hour raised the minimum wage to $16 from $15.80. This adjustment reflects Manitoba’s 2024 inflation rate of 1.1 per cent, rounded up to the nearest five cents.
A start in skating, a future in speed
It all began in 2016 when a young Portage resident gave hockey a shot. It didn’t quite click for him, but his love for skating remained. That’s when Joel Simpson discovered something new—speedskating.
Simpson no longer lives in Portage, but Calgary. Still, Portage is where the journey began, as he made regular trips to Winnipeg to train in a sport that would eventually take him across the country.

On March 31st at 1:30AM Police were called to a business at 2800 Victoria Ave for the report of a male, who was causing a disturbance by smoking inside the business and refused to leave. Police located a 45-year-old male, who was found to be the issue. He was lodged at BPS Detention Unit to prevent continuation of the offence.

Theft of meat leads to charge
On Friday March 28th, at approximately 1:40pm, Police were called to a business in the nine hundred block of 9th St for a reported theft. It was determined that a 34-year-old male was responsible for stealing approximately $100 worth of meat. He was located, arrested and will appear in Court in June.
