After a tragic loss in the wild, a new guest has arrived at the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre.  

Caring for all creatures 

Zoe Nakata, executive director at Wildlife Haven, says their facility treats a variety of critters in need. In 2025 alone, Wildlife Haven has cared for over 177 different species. 

“Baby otters, baby pelicans, eagles and owls. All sorts of animals,” Nakata explains. 

Canadian obstetricians say Tylenol is still safe to take in pregnancy after position review

A group representing Canada's obstetricians and gynecologists says it has reviewed evidence on Tylenol use during pregnancy and maintains that the painkiller is safe. 

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada said on Monday that it has revisited its position in light of reports questioning whether there is a link between mothers taking acetaminophen while pregnant and autism in children.

Liberals will table the federal budget on Nov. 4, Champagne says

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne says the government will table the federal budget on Nov. 4.

The long-awaited spending plan will be the federal Liberals' first under Prime Minister Mark Carney and comes as Ottawa's budget watchdog says he's worried about a lack of fiscal prudence.

It also will be Champagne's first budget as finance minister. He announced the date during question period Tuesday.

He said the plan will offer a "generational investment" in Canada's future.

Leslie back in Ottawa for busy fall session

Portage-Lisgar MP Branden Leslie says returning to Ottawa carries the feeling of a fresh start after a year of prorogation, an election, and a short sitting before summer recess. 

"It's kind of got a bit of a back-to-school vibe, of course," notes Leslie. "We're excited to get back and look forward to seeing a lot of promises that this Liberal government has made, hopefully, come into action because they're not all terrible ideas, especially the ones that they certainly stole from the Conservative Party."

Man facing extradition after migrant family froze to death at Canada-U.S. border

Another man has been arrested in connection with a human smuggling operation that saw a migrant family freeze to death on the Canada-U.S. border near Emerson, Man.

Fenil Patel was arrested Sept. 5 on an extradition request from the United States, the Justice Department in Ottawa said Tuesday. The 37-year-old faces a hearing this week in Ontario Superior Court.

Freeland resigns from cabinet as she takes on new role as special envoy to Ukraine

Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed Chrystia Freeland as Canada's new special envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

While Freeland announced her resignation as transport minister on social media today, she will remain in the House of Commons as an MP until the next election.

She left today's regular cabinet meeting smiling and talking with Carney, but neither answered questions from reporters stationed outside the room.

Federal transportation investigators to visit site of fatal Manitoba plane crash

Investigators are heading to the site of a plane crash that killed four people in remote northeastern Manitoba over the weekend.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says investigators should arrive in St. Theresa Point Anisininew Nation by the end of the week to probe the accident that saw a bush plane crash approximately 40 kilometres south of the community while on its way to Makepeace Lake.
