Cranberry Portage RCMP respond to and destroy suspicious device
On June 16, 2025, at 9:20 am, Cranberry Portage RCMP received a report of a suspicious device found within a dorm room located at an educational facility in Cranberry Portage.
Staff members were on site preparing for the return of students, who had been evacuated from the community since May 31, when they made the discovery.
The device was described to police as a metal pipe with tape and resembled a pipe bomb.

Lorine Hiebert, 92, of Rosenort passed away Friday, June 13th at Boundary Trails Health Centre. She is survived by 3 daughters, 3 sons, 1 sister, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, 1 brother, 1 brother-in-law, and 4 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Lorine Hiebert will be held Wednesday, June 18th at 10:30am at Rosenort Church of God in Christ Mennonite with burial at the church cemetery.

Virden Auction rings in record numbers and rising prices
Heartland Livestock in Virden has seen some large numbers of cattle come through the auction ring over the past number of weeks, reaching record highs.
In early May the Virden auction mart hosted the Canadian Livestock Auction Championship where 39 auctioneers from across Canada where cattle producers saw their assets turn to cash for the 5111 cattle that came through the ring that day.
Case of Bovine TB found in animal from the Pembina Valley
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has launched an investigation into a case of bovine tuberculosis in an animal originating from the Pembina Valley in Manitoba. It was slaughtered at a federally registered abattoir in Manitoba.
According to the CFIA, Bovine TB is a reportable disease in Canada and has been subject to a mandatory national eradication program since 1923. While all areas of Canada are considered to be officially free of bovine TB today, isolated cases in cattle may occur.

This past weekend was another opportunity to celebrate some great people from the game of baseball as the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame welcomed in some new inductees and Dan Giesbrecht, Chair Manitoba Baseball Hall, couldn't be prouder.
