Manitoba government spending targets unrealistic, Opposition Tories say
The Manitoba government's plan to balance the budget in two years will require tighter spending restraint — something the Opposition Progressive Conservatives say is unrealistic.
The provincial budget released this week fleshes out the NDP government's promise to end a string of annual deficits that stretch back to 2009, with two exceptions, by the 2027-28 fiscal year.

Boy Golden and his album “For Eden” is up for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the March 30th event in Vancouver. You may know him by his off-stage name, Liam Duncan, who grew up in Brandon and played more than 600 shows with his previous musical venture The Middle Coast.

On March 20th at 7:50AM Brandon Police alongside Brandon Fire and Emergency Services responded to a vehicle fire near 8th Street and Assiniboine Avenue. The fire was determined to be arson. A Perimeter was setup and K9 were called in. The incident remains under investigation.

The Hydrologic Forecast Centre of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is advising the public the spring thaw has partially started in southern Manitoba basins including the United States portion of the Red River basin. As temperatures rise, river flows and water levels are expected to gradually increase, leading to potentially hazardous ice conditions on rivers, lakes and drainage ditches throughout Manitoba.

Brandon Hospital ER Ramp Closure on Tuesday
Please be advised that the Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) Emergency Department exit ramp will be closed for approximately 8 hours on Tuesday, March 25, starting at 9 am.
The west lane will remain open for ambulances exiting the ambulance bays.
here will be no parking on the ramp for anyone. If you are coming to the ER and your condition is non-critical, we ask that you use the BRHC main entrance doors.
The closure is necessary to allow a crane to position an air handling unit on the roof.

If you're looking for something to do this summer that involves meeting and greeting the public, rich history and being surrounded by passionate people when it comes to aircraft, you might want to consider joining the volunteer team at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM).
Volunteers are needed in most every department, from the reception desk to their library, from grounds keeper and general duties to aircraft and vintage vehicle restoration.

John C. Penner, 91, of Winnipeg passed away Sunday, March 16th at his residence. He is survived by 1 daughter, 3 sons, 1 sister, 1 brother, 6 in-laws and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, 1 sister, 4 brothers and 1 grandson.
The celebration of life for John C. Penner will be held Monday, March 24th at 12pm (noon) at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue, with private family interment.

Killarney library explores new horizons following comprehensive survey
The Lakeland Regional Library in Killarney is anticipating a sit down with the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain to decide what comes next after completing the library's needs assessment that took place earlier this winter.
The library hired Winnipeg organization Republic Architecture to facilitate the needs assessment, drawing on community input through an open house and a survey that could be completed online and in person.
