Twelve Manitobans whose contributions encompass a broad range of endeavours and accomplishments will receive the Order of Manitoba, the province’s highest honour.

Funeral Date: July 26, 2025 
John Klassen, 63, of Winkler passed away Wednesday, July 9th at Boundary Trails Health Centre. He is survived by 3 daughters, 1 son, 1 granddaughter, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, his stepmother, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and 1 brother in infancy. 
The celebration of life for John Klassen will be held Saturday, July 26th at 2pm at Bethel Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Hochfeld with private family burial prior to the service at Gnadenthal Cemetery. 

Goldeyes drop another close one in Sioux Falls

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-35) suffered their 15th one-run loss of the season Wednesday evening, falling 3-2 to the Sioux Falls Canaries (35-25) at Sioux Falls Stadium. It was Winnipeg’s sixth consecutive defeat.

Manitoba cabinet minister did not break conflict law, ethics report says

Manitoba's ethics commissioner has ruled Mike Moroz, the minister of innovation and new technology, did not break the province's conflict of interest law.

The Opposition Progressive Conservatives had accused Moroz of being in a conflict by answering questions about a 9-1-1 service outage while owning shares in Telus.

The Tories also accused Moroz of using inside information that criticized the phone company for the outage and selling company stock.

Jets release schedule for upcoming season

The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, in partnership with the National Hockey League, has announced its full 82-game schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 regular season.

The Jets begin the season at home, welcoming the Dallas Stars to Canada Life Centre on Thursday, Oct. 9, in a rematch of their second-round series from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They will then face the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, Oct. 11, before hitting the road to play the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Monday, Oct. 13.

Municipal leaders in the RM of Sifton have been strong advocates for the rehabilitation of the Oak Lake Dam.  In addition to this they've seen the negative side of blue-green algal blooms that affect the recreation on the lake as well as the fish population.  Cyanobacteria is toxic to humans and pets and contributes to an unhealthy eco-system for underwater fish and plants.

U19 Killarney Lakers coach McIntyre reflects on season, provincial bronze and more

A strong season for the U19 Killarney Lakers was capped off by claiming provincial bronze, something that coach Keith McIntyre says it was a great way to wrap up the year.

"It feels great," McIntyre says proudly. "The girls worked really, really hard all year. They maybe didn't get gold or silver, but it's always nice to come home with a medal."

Rain provides relief in Manitoba's latest crop report

A spokesperson for Manitoba Agriculture says it remains to be seen what sort of damage was felt on fields from last week's hail.

Hail was reported in numerous locations across the province, and Oilseed Specialist Sonia Wilson says producers will typically leave those crops for five to seven days, just to see how they rebound, before assessing them for hail damage. 

Family’s frightening encounter sparks safety reminder from Brandon Police Service

On July 13th at 6:15 PM Brandon Police received a call of a male and female arguing from within a bush at the Discovery Centre.  The 37-year-old female was breaching No Contact conditions with the 40-year-old male. She was arrested, held in detention cells at Brandon Police Service (BPS) and [attended] court in the morning on July 14th, 2025.
