Wheatland County fourth to declares ag disaster

Wheatland County has declared a Municipal Agricultural Disaster due to the extended drought conditions we've experienced.

"Low growing season moisture compounded by extended periods of extreme heat, both of which have substantially depleted our soil moisture reserves have dealt a severe blow to all facets of agricultural production within Wheatland County," a County press release said.

RCMP on scene of serious motor vehicle collision

An accident on Highway 1 at Range Road 211 east of Gleichen has resulted in one lane of eastbound traffic on the highway to be closed by Gleichen RCMP.

The accident occurred at around 10:00 am this morning.

There is no timeline for when the eastbound lane will reopen, but westbound traffic remains open.

Chestermere RCMP investigating attempted robbery

At around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 20, Chestermere RCMP were dispatched to a robbery at a local pharmacy on Merganser Drive. 

It is believed that the vehicle used in the robbery was the same vehicle used in an Airdrie pharmacy robbery, which occurred just prior to this one at 1:40 p.m. The licence plate obtained in the Airdrie robbery was Alberta licence plate CFM 3654.
