Opposition parties call for Parliament's return after Trump hits pause on tariffs
The federal Conservatives and New Democrats say the government needs to recall Parliament within the next month to act on U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threat.
On Monday, Trump agreed not to impose punishing tariffs on Canadian imports until March 4 after striking a deal with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over two phone calls.
Trudeau says he presented Trump with the federal government's plan to secure the border and tackle fentanyl production and trafficking.

Strathmore RCMP charge man after finding him asleep in stolen vehicle
Strathmore RCMP has charged a man with several offences after officers found him asleep in a stolen vehicle.
"Strathmore RCMP was on patrol in Strathmore’s industrial park when they noted a silver Mercedes Benz SUV parked in the middle of Slater Road with the brake lights illuminated. The officer activated their emergency lights which did not illicit a reaction from the driver," says a police news release.
RCMP added that the vehicle was stolen and was used for several property crimes in the Calgary area.
Kings lose two big games this past weekend, preparing for upcoming playoff season
The Agra Risk Wheatland Kings dropped to third place in the division standings this past weekend.
The club suffered two losses, one to the Carstar Okotoks Bisons 5-4 and another to the Airdrie Techmation Thunder 4-2.
The Strathmore team already skated to a playoff berth earlier in the season, however, the Kings aren't sure who they'll be playing until the season wraps up.
Up next for the Kings is a battle against the Medicine Hat Cubs on Friday night as the Cubs are just one point ahead with 52 points.
Siksika Nation Tribal Administration office closed due to frigid temperatures
The Siksika Nation Tribal Administration office is closed on Tuesday due to the frigid temperatures.
"Please prioritize your safety. We will monitor the situation and provide updates regarding tomorrow's operations," mentioned the nation in a Facebook post.
The office was also closed on Monday and staff said if residents need help with housing, public works, and public safety they can call 403-734-3815.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she's "greatly heartened" by U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff pause, saying the eleventh-hour deal with Canada follows through on a border security measure she had been calling for.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said late Monday the tariffs will be paused for "at least 30 days" while Canada appoints a "fentanyl czar" and works with the U.S. to combat drug trafficking and organized crime.

Uncertainty still hangs over the Canadian economy despite U.S. President Donald Trump announcing a 30-day pause in tariffs that were to take effect today.
The temporary reprieve halts — at least for now — a continental trade war that economists on both sides of the border warned would raise prices.
Trump's decision meant Canada and the provinces also halted their moves to retaliate including with tariffs and bans on U.S. alcohol sales north of the border.

It’s annual general meeting time for the Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) and president Jill Verwey from the Portage area says there is plenty to cover. The AGM is happening today, February 4th, at the Delta Hotel in Winnipeg.
Verwey noted that, overall, Manitoba producers experienced a productive year in 2024. However, she highlighted concerns regarding crop pricing and the logistics of shipping grain.

Strathmore businesses and politicians weigh in as tariff threat paused
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with President Donald Trump on Monday, announcing that 25 per cent tariffs supposed to be imposed on Tuesday for all Canadian goods have now been paused.
This means Canada's counter-tariffs are also on hold until at least the end of February.
Despite the announcement, businesses in Strathmore are still feeling the heat.
