Chestermere Energizer Night to showcase the best of the community
Chestermere's bi-annual Energizer Night returns to the city this week.
On Wednesday, Mar. 24, the Chestermere Rec Centre will be filled with local businesses, groups, and organizations showcasing the work they do in the community.
Chestermere boxer sets sights on 2028 Summer Olympics after gold medal win
Chestermere boxer Randy Polines brought home some serious hardware this past weekend, winning a gold medal at the Canada Cup.
"I'm very happy to have fought in an event like that," said Polines.
Polines was also named national rookie of the year by Boxing Canada.
He's also the number-one ranked boxer in his division of 51 kg.
"I put in the work, the blood, sweat, and tears to get to that position," recalled Polines.
His journey in boxing began four years ago with his brother.
Fire crews tackle blaze in Nightingale area
Fire crews from the Rockyford Fire Department were dispatched to a blaze in the Nightingale area.
Firefighters shuttled water to a bale fire Monday afternoon.
In an update Tuesday, the Village of Rockyford said crews were still transporting water to the area.

Heavy police activity in Brooks: RCMP provide public safety update
There was a heavy police presence in Brooks on Tuesday, Mar. 25.
According to police, officers were in the area of First Street East in Brooks.
RCMP say that the scene was cleared a few hours after police arrived in the area.
Police are expecting to provide an update on Wednesday.
Gleichen RCMP locate missing Indigenous teenager
Gleichen RCMP asked the public's help to locate 13-year-old Dayla Firstrider.
She was found Tuesday afternoon.
According to a police release, Firstrider was last seen in Siksika Nation on Mar. 22 and was expected to return home the following day. When she did not return, concerns for her well-being arose.
Real Canadian Wrestling to lay the smackdown on the Strathmore Stampede
Real Canadian Wrestling is making its way to the Strathmore Stampede this year.
"Real Canadian Wrestling takes over the Strathmore Gold Arena after the chuckwagon races, with a live DJ and cabaret to follow," said staff with the Strathmore & District Agricultural Society.
The event will join several other festivities throughout the weekend of Aug. 2-4 including Running with the Bulls, chuckwagons, rodeo, and the RCMP Musical Ride.
The Stampede will also feature country artist Tyler Joe Miller performing during the Friday Night Concert.
Liberals hold six-point lead over Conservatives: Leger poll
The federal Liberals are pushing further ahead of the Conservatives in voter support, and almost one in two Canadians surveyed said they think the Liberals will win the election, a new poll suggests.
The survey, conducted by Leger for The Canadian Press, reports that 44 per cent of decided voters surveyed would vote Liberal in the upcoming election, ahead of the Conservatives at 38 per cent.
The poll surveyed 1,599 Canadians between March 21 and March 23, which includes the first day of the election, and the two days leading into it.
Prairie Canola Farmers continue to navigate new Chinese tariffs
As tensions rise in ongoing trade disputes, China's latest move is adding to concerns for Canadian producers. The country recently announced a 100 per cent tariff on canola oil and meal exported from Canada, compounding the uncertainty already present due to U.S. tariffs.

The new tariff has many farmers wondering how to best proceed and that includes Curtis Sims, owner of Emeline Farms near MacGregor, Manitoba. Sims grows canola and is worried about the impact of these trade measures.
