16 soldiers injured in accident at Valcartier military base in Quebec

More than a dozen soldiers were sent to hospital this afternoon after an accident at a military base in Quebec.

Capt. Hermione Wilson, a public affairs officer with the Canadian Armed Forces, says the accident took place at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier.

Wilson says the accident in the base's training area involved two armoured vehicles.

She says civilian and military emergency services responded immediately to the scene.

Wilson says 16 members of the 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

Conservatives' to introduce non-confidence motion next week: Poilievre

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has confirmed he will ask the other opposition parties to bring down the Liberal government next week with a non-confidence motion.

A Conservative spokesperson said the motion will simply say the House has no confidence in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his government.

Now that the NDP has ended the supply-and-confidence deal with the Liberals, the minority government needs to shore up support from opposition parties on a vote-by-vote basis.

Gate Capital Campaign is off to a strong start


Four Provincial grower organizations have announced $13.4 million in funding for the newly launched Gate Capital Campaign.

Led by Cereals Canada, the $102 million Global Agriculture Technology Exchange project (otherwise known as Gate) will be built in downtown Winnipeg.

The new facility will provide office space for Cereals Canada as well as new state-of-the-art technical areas such as analytical labs, pilot processing and research facilities.

Unique lunar eclipse visible from Strathmore tonight

A special partial lunar eclipse will be visible from Strathmore on Tuesday (Sept. 17) during the night.

This is the second lunar eclipse of the year, with the eclipse also serving as both a supermoon and a harvest moon.

According to the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada based in Calgary, the supermoon is a full moon closest to Earth in orbit, making it appear slightly larger in the sky.

A harvest moon is the closest full moon to the fall equinox, which is when there is an equal amount of daytime and nighttime.

Trudeau says 'all sorts of reflections' for Liberals after loss of second stronghold

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the Liberals have lots to ponder after losing a second stronghold in a byelection in Montreal.

"Obviously, it's never fun to come so close and not win a byelection," Trudeau said this morning in French, a few hours after Elections Canada confirmed the Bloc Quebecois had defeated the Liberals in LaSalle—Émard—Verdun.

Bird flu outbreaks has CFIA advising against Canadian participation in US beef shows

With bird flu outbreaks popping up more and more in the United States, officials are asking Canadian producers to not bring their own cattle over in case of contamination.

That comes as multiple producers will be unable to attend cattle shows below the border due to the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

In a release from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), they advised against " all Canadian cattle travelling to and participating in agricultural exhibitions in the U.S. at this time."

Canada’s inflation rate hits 2% target, lowest level in more than three years

Inflation finally hit the Bank of Canada's two per cent target in August after a tumultuous battle with skyrocketing price growth, raising the odds of larger interest rate cuts in the coming months.

Canada's annual inflation rate fell from 2.5 per cent in July to reach the lowest level since February 2021.

The slowdown can be attributed in part to lower gasoline prices, Statistics Canada said Tuesday in its consumer price index report.

Heavy police presence in Strathmore ends; no risk to public reported

heavy police incident in Strathmore on Tuesday (Sept. 17) has ended.

Traffic was shut down through Strathcona Gate to Strathford Crescent as officers with rifles were seen throughout the streets and back alleys.

Police were on the scene for several hours before the incident ended. According to police, there was no risk to the public.

Elijah Blake Strawberry’s court date postponed; next hearing set for Airdrie

The second suspect in the murder of a Rocky View County employee had his first court appearance on Monday (Sept. 16) in Edmonton.

Elijah Blake Strawberry's case was postponed, with his next appearance set for an Airdrie courtroom on September 26.

Strawberry was arrested last Friday in O'Chiese First Nation near Red Deer.
