'Words cannot describe our grief': 2 officers killed in Ontario shooting identified
An officer who worked with outreach and mental health teams and a veteran constable who was a trained crisis negotiator were identified Wednesday as the two police officers who died after a shooting in Innisfil, Ont. – an event that left residents of the quiet community in shock.
The South Simcoe Police Service said the officers had responded to a disturbance at a home in the town north of Toronto around 8 p.m. Tuesday when the shooting took place.
Many Canadian doctors struggle with burnout, depression and anxiety: survey
The well-being of physicians across Canada has significantly decreased with many doctors reporting poorer mental health than before the COVID-19 pandemic, a new survey suggests.
The Canadian Medical Association's national physician health survey, released Thursday, indicates that 53 per cent of respondents reported symptoms of burnout, including emotional exhaustion.
The reported burnout rate among doctors was 1.7 times higher than it was in the association's previous survey in 2017.
Canadian Blood Services urging people to donate as it faces collection challenges
Canadian Blood Services is calling on donors to book and keep appointments as it faces a decrease in collections.
The organization said Monday it currently has only four days worth of O+ blood type supply and five days worth of O- and B- blood types, along with six days worth of A- blood type and seven days worth of A+ and B+ blood types.
Spokeswoman Delphine Denis said collections have been steadily decreasing since July 1.
Denis said the blood-collecting agency closely monitors the days of the available blood supply.
