Alcohol-related incidents highlight week for Weyburn Police

The Weyburn Police Service dealt with a pair of calls last Tuesday, both of which involved alcohol.  

The first call was in the early morning hours and came from the staff at a local hotel. A group of men staying at the hotel became involved in a physical altercation. Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the men that they believed were involved.

Today is a day that is aimed at helping change the lives of children across the country. Today is Tim Hortons Camp Day, where 100 percent of the proceeds from coffee sales go towards the Tim Hortons Foundation.  

Weyburn’s Renee McDonald is an alumnus of the Tim Hortons camp program. She first went to the camp in 2008 and then moved on to being part of their youth leadership program from 2012 to 2016. She said her experience at the camp over the years was invaluable.  

Weyburn Young Fellows fund sensory room upgrade with $4000 sensory swing

The Weyburn Young Fellows Club made a $4000 contribution to Inclusion Weyburn through providing a sensory swing to the sensory room at the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre.  

Jackie Wilson, president of Inclusion Weyburn, calls the swing a “wonderful thing to have in our sensory room”. 

Explore Weyburn's history: Soo Line Museum & Heritage Village now open

The Weyburn and Area Heritage Village and Soo Line Historical Museum are open for the summer. Both facilities will be open every Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

The Soo Line Museum holds various displays about the history of Weyburn. Exhibits include information about the Historic Weyburn Mental Hospital, artifacts from yesterday’s Weyburn, and even boasts the world's largest private silver collection.  

FPT Ag Ministers meet in the Yukon

The Federal, Provincial, and Territorial Agriculture Ministers are holding their annual conference in Whitehorse.

Manitoba's Agriculture Minister, Ron Kostyshyn, wants to see a discussion around Trade and Market Access.

Kostyshyn says he's very concerned about Voluntary Country of Origin Labelling, and believes this could seriously affect pork  exports to the United States.
 
Manitoba is the largest pig-producing province in Canada, and is the largest exporter of weanlings into the United States.

Crone, Harvey Kent

Harvey Kent Crone, late of Radville, SK passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 3, 2024 at the age of 83 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Laurier Cemetery, Scatter Garden, Radville, SK. A luncheon will follow at the Radville United Church, Radville, SK.

Canola blast is starting to show up with the heat

The intense heat we've been dealing with over the last couple of weeks has resulted in signs of heat stress starting to show up in some crops.

There's a real concern about the potential impact on canola crops at the flowering stage.

Curtis Rempel, vice president of crop production and innovation with the Canola Council of Canada says when the temperatures are in the 30's, it's especially hard on flowering canola plants.

Food, shelter costs rise as Saskatchewan inflation remains unchanged

The latest inflation data was released by Statistics Canada Tuesday morning.  

The numbers showed the overall consumer rate index in Saskatchewan, or CPI held steady in June at 1.43 percent. While the overall number remained unchanged from the previous month, some numbers did have changes. Some of the biggest changes outside of the energy sector came with food and shelter, which were up 3.68 percent and 3.72 percent respectively.  

Lutz, Alan James

Alan James Lutz, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on July 15, 2024 at the age of 81 years.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, SK with Pastor Victoria Mwamasika officiating. Luncheon will be held as well at the Zion Lutheran Church. Interment for Alan will take place at a later date in Crossfield, Alberta.
