Games two and three of this exciting series take place over the May long weekend; the Oilers are in Calgary for Game 2 Friday (May 20) before heading back north for Game 3 on Sunday.

There are a few things visitors should be aware of if visiting Elk Island National Park this long weekend. 

Firstly, expect the park to be busy. Parking is limited, and to avoid overcrowding in the park people are encouraged to arrive before 11 a.m. or after 4 p.m. When capacity is reached, entrance gates may be closed temporarily.

Canada banning China's Huawei Technologies, ZTE from 5G telecom networks

The Liberal government is banning Chinese vendors Huawei Technologies and ZTE from Canada's long-awaited blueprint for next-generation mobile networks.

"Telecommunication companies in Canada will not be permitted to include in their networks products or services that put our national security at risk," Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Thursday in Ottawa.

"Providers who already have this equipment installed will be required to cease its use and remove it under the plans we are announcing today."

Jason Kenney to remain Alberta premier until new UCP leader chosen by party

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, one day after announcing he was stepping down for the good of his United Conservative Party, will stay on until a new leader is chosen.

UCP caucus chair Nathan Neudorf said members met Thursday and decided that Kenney should remain in the top job for now.

“The United Conservative caucus had a vigorous discussion and debate about the future of our party and our government,” Neudorf said in a statement following an all-day meeting at McDougall Centre in Calgary.

Prince Charles and Camilla wrap Canadian tour but calls for reconciliation continue

A whirlwind visit by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has ended but the calls for meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples have not.

The couple departed Canada Thursday night after a three-day tour that began in St. John's, N.L., with a solemn moment of reflection on residential school deaths and ended in the North with a meeting with First Nations chiefs on climate change.

Charles told people in Yellowknife that he was deeply moved by conversations with survivors who courageously shared their experiences of the schools.

Strathcona County RCMP make arrest in "grandparents scam" case

A Calgary man is facing charges after he was arrested by the Strathcona County RCMP.

Jeb Trim, 40, was charged with fraud over $5,000 after allegedly collecting money in a scheme commonly known as "the grandparents scam."

Police say on May 9, the victim received a call from a man claiming to be their grandson who needed $8,000 USD for bail money. Another male, claiming to be a police officer, corroborated the story, saying their grandson had been arrested for drug possession and required bail money before being released from jail. 

Dow Fort Saskatchewan employees volunteering in honour of the company's 125th anniversary

Dow is celebrating its 125th anniversary.

In honour of the anniversary, Dow Fort Saskatchewan employees will volunteer in a community clean-up event on May 26, and the Kids Can Catch fishing event on June 5 at West Rivers Edge. This is part of the global serve-a-thon initiative Dow is running for all its employees; last year, employees volunteered over 2,000 hours across Canada.

"We want to make our home a better place," said Michael Liu, public affairs lead for Alberta at Dow Canada.

RCMP: 16-year-old charged after pointing gun at Sherwood Park taxi driver

A teenager was recently charged for pointing a gun at a Sherwood Park taxi driver. 

On May 5, Strathcona County RCMP received a 911 call regarding a payment dispute between the driver and the three passengers. During the confrontation, one of the passengers pointed a handgun at the driver. No one was injured.
