$14,000 in scholarships and prizes awarded at 16th annual GOAL Conference
After a cancellation last year and postponement from earlier this year, 45 Canadian Angus youth and one guest from the Junior Red Angus Association in the United States were excited to gather in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan over the weekend for the sixteenth annual Guiding Outstanding Angus Leaders (GOAL) Conference. GOAL is traditionally held over the February long weekend. The five finalists in the Canadian Angus Foundation Legacy Scholarship program shared $11,000 and a $3,000 heifer voucher prize was awarded to one lucky attendee.
Alberta to invest $50 million in new hydrogen centre
The Alberta government will be investing $50-million to create a new Clean Hydrogen Centre of Excellence.
The centre's goal is to provide support with hydrogen research and development for both industry and small business, with the hopes of building toward a prosperous future.
Alberta is already the largest hydrogen producer in the country. With hydrogen expected to be a several-trillion dollar industry by 2050, Alberta is looking to emerge as a leader in the global market.

Another break and enter in Fort Saskatchewan, woman arrested
Police have arrested a Fort Saskatchewan woman.
On Sunday morning (May 1), at around 6:30 a.m., the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP was called when a bicycle and attached trailer were left abandoned at a business on 83 Avenue and 113 Street.
Officers arrived and found a woman riding the bike away from the business. She was arrested and admitted to entering the business and stealing from it.
Gas leak in Strathcona County forces elementary school to take shelter
An Ardrossan elementary school was recently impacted by a gas leak.
On Tuesday (May 3), just after 2 p.m., Strathcona County Emergency Services was informed of a gas line strike at the intersection of Range Road 213 and Township Road 524.
RCMP was called as well to handle traffic control.
Uncas School was in the area during this time and was starting to let everyone out for the day, which was a challenge for the crews while they were still looking into the issue.

New speed limits in Fort Sask May 16, here's what will be changing
Speed limits are about to change in Fort Saskatchewan.
The default speed limit in residential areas will decrease from 50 to 40 km/hr, 94 Street south of Southfort Drive will increase to 60 km/hr, and 99 Avenue between 101 Street and 90 Street will increase to 60km/hr.
Most arterial roadways off Veterans Way will remain at 50km/hr, while Highway 15 east of 119 Street is set to increase to 80 km/hr.
Property taxes due on June 30
It’s just about time to pay your property taxes.
Strathcona County is preparing to mail out property tax notices with a June 30 deadline to pay. Residents can expect an average property tax increase of 2.28 per cent, based on the 3.11 tax increase approved by council in December 2021. Some will pay more or less depending on how their property assessment changed.
