Resilient Rurals opens Interagency Operations Centre in Bruderheim

In 2019, the towns of Burderhiem, Gibbons and Lamont formed a project called Resilient Rurals. The idea was for the communities to work together to improve resiliency by examining human, financial and communication resources, infrastructure needs and disaster preparedness.

VIDEO: 100+ metre load moving through area

A wide load is travelling through the region.

Yesterday (Apr. 27), a 103-metre-long and 5.73-metre-high load left the Scotford refinery and petrochemical area near Fort Saskatchewan. It left around 9 a.m. and should be arriving at its final destination in Edson on Tuesday (May 3) around 6 a.m.

The load is an electrical generator, is almost as long as a CFL football field and as tall as a traffic light pole. 

It will be travelling on the following route:

Sawmill takes accountability, serious steps after recent closure

The Sawmill Prime Rib and Steak House in Fort Saskatchewan is taking accountability after a recent visit from Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Through various closures and re-openings during the pandemic, it became tough for the restaurant not only to stay afloat, but an empty building also meant extra behind-the-scenes maintenance with less staff.

Sawmill president Tasker Goodchild was looking forward to getting back into the rhythm of the fast-paced hospitality industry. 

Strathcona County firefighters quick to save house from attic fire

Strathcona County Emergency Services were able to stop a bad situation from getting a lot worse.

On Tuesday (Apr. 26) just after 9 p.m., firefighters were called to a house fire in Sherwood Park near Coachman Way. Crews arrived to find smoke coming out of the attic in the attached garage.

The heat and smoke in the garage made it difficult for the firefighters to see the problem. They started pulling some of the eaves to better assess where the smoke was coming from and found a smouldering fire, and was able to get it under control.

Survivors unite to deliver message on Holocaust remembrance

Holocaust survivors across the world have united to deliver a message on the dangers of unchecked hate and the importance of remembrance at a time of rising global antisemitism.

In a video released Thursday to mark Yom HaShoah -- Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day -- 100 Holocaust survivors asked people to stand with them and remember the Nazi genocide to avoid repeating the horrors of the past.
