Sawmill takes accountability, serious steps after recent closure

The Sawmill Prime Rib and Steak House in Fort Saskatchewan is taking accountability after a recent visit from Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Sawmill president Tasker Goodchild was looking forward to getting back into the rhythm of the fast-paced hospitality industry.

Strathcona County firefighters quick to save house from attic fire

Strathcona County Emergency Services were able to stop a bad situation from getting a lot worse.

On Tuesday (Apr. 26) just after 9 p.m., firefighters were called to a house fire in Sherwood Park near Coachman Way. Crews arrived to find smoke coming out of the attic in the attached garage.

The heat and smoke in the garage made it difficult for the firefighters to see the problem. They started pulling some of the eaves to better assess where the smoke was coming from and found a smouldering fire, and was able to get it under control.

Between 2016 and 2021, the number of people aged 85 and older grew by 12 per cent — more than twice as high as the overall growth of the Canadian population at 5.2 per cent.

The number of people over 85 more than doubled since the 2001 census, and is expected to triple by 2046.
