'We should be able to manage:' Provinces experiencing rise in COVID hospitalizations
Hospitals across Canada are facing a resurgence of patients with COVID-19 that some health officials say will likely continue for another month.
Latest data from the Public Health Agency of Canada shows hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose about 18 per cent across Canada between April 4 and April 11 — to 6,020 people needing beds from 5,109.
In the last week, Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and the Prairies have all reported an increase in hospitalizations from the virus and intensive care admissions have also inched slightly upwards in some provinces.
Gas leak in Strathcona County causing rotten egg smell in Edmonton
A gas leak is reportedly causing a rotten egg smell in parts of Edmonton.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) said on Twitter the leak and smell are coming from the Imperial Oil Tank Farm (90 Avenue and 34 Street) in Strathcona County.
The Tweet went on to say the leak does not pose any risk to the public.
The smell could be noticeable for up to a week or more.
We’re not done with the snow yet
If you thought we were free and clear of the snow, we’ve got some bad news.
Environment Canada is calling for snow Monday night (Apr. 18), about 4-6 cm on Tuesday and more is possible on Wednesday.
The weather agency says the forecast should clear up on Thursday, with double digits again come the weekend.

Large item pickup starting in Strathcona County
Strathcona County residents will get a chance to rid their homes of some larger items.
Large item pickup is starting in the county. The first week, county staff will pick up items on Tuesday (Apr. 19) and Thursday during regular collection. Next week, they will pick up the items during regular collection on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Things that can be picked up include broken furniture, appliances, or other non-reusable large or heavy household items. Electronics like computers or microwaves are not accepted.
Several Fort Saskatchewan Rangers recognized as AEHL award winners
A few local hockey players were recognised for a great season.
The Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) recently announced its award winners and All-Star teams for the 2021-22 season in the U18 AAA, U16 AAA and U15 AAA divisions.
Fort Saskatchewan Rangers' Ashton Funk was awarded top defenceman for U18. He and forward Brett Boucher were also picked for the First All-Star Team. Brett Cox was named coach of the year.
For the U16s, Brendan McFatridge and Logan Henley were chosen for the Second All-Star Team.
Classic Albums Live honouring The Beatles at the Shell Theatre
Classic Albums Live is returning to the Shell Theatre.
On Tuesday (Apr. 19), the band will be honouring Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band with a 'note for note - cut for cut' performance of each song. Classic Albums Live frequently tours around Canada to recreate famous historical albums.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was the eighth studio album by the Beatles. It was released in 1967 and spent 27 weeks at number one on the Record Retailer chart in the United Kingdom and 15 weeks at number one on the Billboard Top LPs chart in the United States.
RCMP release some information on Wellington Place incident
The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP has released more information on an incident in Westpark.
At least eight RCMP vehicles were set up on or near Wellington Place on Sunday afternoon (Apr. 17).
Multiple officers, including some with assault rifles, could be seen from a distance.
"RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence," police said in a release.
"Officers now cleared the area and are investigating the circumstances of the complaint."
For close to two hours, residents could not leave or enter the neighbourhood.
Update: police incident unfolding in Fort Saskatchewan neighbourhood
There was a police situation in a Westpark neighbourhood.
At least eight RCMP vehicles were set up on or near Wellington Place on Sunday afternoon (Apr. 17).
Multiple officers, including some with assault rifles, could be seen from a distance.
For close to two hours, residents could not leave or enter the area -- police have since left and the street has reopened.
