Prosecution press Starrett on details around death of his baby son

The prosecution has finished questioning Damien Starrett, the Fort Saskatchewan father on trial for murder.
He has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of his one-year-old son, Ares, in 2019. He is also accused of assaulting his five-year-old daughter.
On the third day of his time on the witness stand, the prosecution pressed Starrett on the details of the case.
Strathcona County RCMP help nab suspects after dozens of Ford F-150's stolen
Three men have been arrested after a string of vehicle thefts.
In February, there was a rash of new model F150 thefts in Edmonton, specifically 2017-2020 models equipped with push-button start. Edmonton Police Service (EPS) started looking into it after more than a dozen trucks were stolen between Feb.18-20.
Police believed the suspects were using sophisticated technology to defeat the trucks' anti-theft systems.

One person in hospital after fire at Suncor Energy
More information has been released about the incident at Suncor Energy Wednesday (Mar. 30) morning.
The company said around 6:40 a.m., a fire broke out at their refinery in Sherwood Park. Sirens went off, and the plant was quickly evacuated.
In a Tweet, Strathcona County said there was no threat to public safety.

Canada will extend some settlement services to fleeing Ukrainians, but they will not receive all of the same supports as typical refugees, the federal immigration minister said Wednesday.
Many Ukrainians who've applied to come to Canada are doing so under a special visitor visa program that would allow them to work and study for three years while they decide whether or not to return home.
So far about 60,000 Ukrainians and their families have applied to come to Canada under that program, and another 12,000 have come under traditional immigration streams since January.

Damien Starrett continued giving his testimony on Wednesday (Mar. 30).
The 33-year-old is currently on trial after killing his one-year-old son, Ares, and assaulting his five-year-old daughter in 2019. He is facing a second-degree murder charge.
After spending the first day of his testimony talking about his childhood, his insomnia and giving his perspective on what happened the night Ares died, Starrett talked about the protests outside his home when he got out of jail.
Alberta sees slight increase in COVID-19, Paxlovid to be more available
Health Minister Jason Copping says the province is seeing a slight increase in COVID-19 cases as people return to the office and other in-person activities.
The positivity rate currently sits at a weekly average of 24.5 per cent, which is up from last week's average of 22 per cent. Wastewater data also shows an increase in transmission, particularly in the Calgary and Edmonton regions.
Police investigating after body found in burnt-out vehicle
The Strathcona County RCMP is investigating the death of a 38-year-old-man in Sherwood Park.
Tuesday (Mar. 29) afternoon at 1:17 p.m., Mounties received a 911 call about a vehicle fire on Range Road 224 just south of Wye Road. The car was fully engulfed in flames once police and emergency services arrived.
Once the fire was extinguished, police found human remains inside the vehicle.

The 2022 Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships are taking place April 7-10 at the JRC for the Senior AA division. The Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs will play four evening games as the host city.
