Mobile mammography service coming to Gibbons this month

A mobile mammography unit will be making its way to Gibbons later this month.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) sent out a release on Monday (May 8) morning announcing that the service will be available in the town from May 25 to 27.

The group most at risk of developing breast cancer are women aged 45 to 75.

Things you can and can’t use during the fire ban

There is a fire ban in place for Fort Saskatchewan and many surrounding communities.

MIX 107 spoke with Fort Saskatchewan's fire chief Todd Martens about what is and isn’t permitted.

"When we put on a ban, that normally is banning anything that you're using for recreational fire pits. All permits are revoked, fireworks, that kind of stuff," said Martens.

As for what is allowed, it comes down to whether or not there's combustion, and if the appliance can be turned off.

Here is what is allowed during the fire ban:

Canada's electronic waste more than tripled in the last two decades and is expected to keep increasing, a new study indicates, with researchers urging better e-waste management to reduce environmental harm and bring economic rewards.

Researchers from the University of Waterloo conducted what they called a comprehensive estimate of e-waste in Canada to better understand the lifecycle of electronic items from point of sale to disposal.

The study, published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials, looked at e-waste data going as far back as 1971.

"People have called this season certainly unprecedented in recent memory because we have so many fires so spread out," Christie Tucker with Alberta Wildfire told a media briefing Sunday afternoon.

"It's been an unusual year."
