Cody Fajardo will be wearing a different shade of green tonight as he makes his first start as an opponent since leaving the Saskatchewan Roughriders. 

The Roughriders host the Edmonton Elks, who have made a quarterback change, electing to replace Tre Ford with the former Roughriders quarterback. 

The U18 Strathmore Reds are heading to a provincial tournament this weekend.

Between Friday (July 25) and Sunday, there will be several teams taking part in the tournament at the Cheadle ball diamond.

Here is a schedule of the tournament:

They scored 33 runs in two games. The Medicine Hat Mavericks enjoyed their time at Ross Wells Park in Moose Jaw this week. They beat the Miller Express 16-10 last night.

Jeremy Freeman Junior and Aaron Vulcano hit home runs for the winners. Vulcano went five-for-five with 4 RBI.

William Edwards hit his 9th homer of the season for the Millers who travel to Weyburn to play the Beavers tonight.

In other Western Canadian Baseball League action last night, the Regina Red Sox lost to Lethbridge 5-4 and the Saskatoon Berries shutout Swift Current 9-0.

Thursday night kicked off the Battle of the Foothills chuckwagon races at the High River Ag grounds.

Jamie Laboucane came through with the top time of the night, with defending champion Chanse Vigen placing in 5th, and High River's own Jason Glass coming in 6th on the night.

Other local favourites had solid times too, with Jordie Fike from Blackie coming in 11th and DeWinton's Dayton Sutherland coming in 14th.

The top four drivers in the aggregate after Saturday night's heats will qualify for the final championship heat on Sunday.

Major news came out of the Kindersley Jr. Klippers organization on Thursday as it was officially announced that Head Coach and GM Clayton Jardine accepted an assistant coaching job with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. 

A native of Lacombe, Alberta, Jardine's move to Red Deer represents both a jump to the next level, but also a chance to go closer to home.  

Baseball in the southeast will reach its peak this weekend as the Saskota Men's Baseball League hosts the Jack Harbourne Memorial Tournament. The event pits the eight top teams against each other to see who comes out on top.

Riley Singleton, the president of the league, says action will take place across the southeast beginning tonight.

With the high school football season fast approaching, the ECS Elecs are still on the lookout for a few more coaches to round out their staff.

Head coach Paul Duncan says the team is currently seeking three to four coaches for the upcoming season, with two volunteers already confirmed. The hope is to add a couple more, particularly to cover defensive positions.

"We're looking for some defensive specialists, guys that have backgrounds on the defensive side of the game," Duncan said. "However, at any point in time, we'll take whoever we can get."

From an early age, Laramie Lockie has been around rodeo, and her love of horses as well as support from family has boosted her into a barrel racing star. 

"My dad was a bull rider, so I was kind of set up right from the start" Lockie says with a smile. "My grandparents on both sides have horses as well, so it was kind of just meant to be, I think."

It's been a strong and fun year for the U11 AA Winkler squad, and coach Josh Krahn is happy with what's been and excited for what's to come.

"To be honest, we've just been trying to keep it loose," Krahn says about the days leading up to provincials starting. "We know what the task at hand is, we're focused on winning it all, but at the same time we think that if we keep it loose, we try to have fun, not take anything too seriously, we believe our team can hang with anybody. So, we're just trying to keep it like that."
