Winkler set to be host site for U11 AA tier 1 and 2 provincials

The community of Winkler is buzzing as the U11 AA provincials are this weekend, and the organizing committee is ready to welcome players, fans, and parents to town.

Getting the provincials to Winkler is a big deal, and Heather DiFrancesco details what went into it. "Through Winkler Minor Ball, we put in a bid for hosting provincials, and we were awarded the U11 AA tier 1 provincials. On the way, we were also given tier 2. It's a big deal. We have 20 teams coming from all over the province. It's a big endeavor, but it's very exciting."

Napper shows flexibility with Team Sask

Sometimes you have to be adaptable to win.

"You have to learn and adjust to anything people throw at you. You can adjust and it will pay off."

That's a lesson Swift Current football player Cade Napper learned as he helped Saskatchewan win a 5th consecutive 2025 U16 Western Regional Challenge.

"A mix of emotions when that buzzer went off," Napper said. "All of us crowded the field and it just felt like we'd accomplished something huge with this new team I'd never really known the guys on."

Beavers thump 57s on Fill the Park Night

The Weyburn Beavers silenced the Swift Current 57s bats Wednesday night while flexing their offensive muscle in a lopsided victory at Mitchell Field for Fill the Park Night.

Beavers left fielder Ryan Muizelaar went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs in the 11-0 Weyburn win. First baseman Brayden Mayencourt went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs.

The 57s allowed at least a run in six of the nine innings to the Beavers, and only accumulated six hits in the loss, with Trigg Mapes collecting a third of them, going 2-for-3.

While the three other local senior baseball leagues around West Central continue their postseason, the Fertile Valley Baseball League is over and done with after the Oyen Eagles swept the Rosetown Angels in the league final last week to complete an undefeated season and second straight championship campaign.

From Regina to Rosetown: Ramblers claim 15U title after Sunday rainout

Rain played a factor as baseball and softball provincials continued around the province this past weekend. The nine-team 15U Tier 5 tournament in Regina featured four local teams, all making it to championship Sunday, and two meeting in the final game that the rain ended up forcing out of town.

The Delisle Tigers, Outlook River Hawks, Rosetown Angels, and Eston Ramblers were in play, and each team advanced to Sunday.

Macklin Lakers season on the line at home after first loss

Macklin is hosting Amisk Wednesday night in Battle River Baseball League action, the Lakers season on the line after a loss in Game 2 back on Monday.

Amisk won a low scoring affair 3-2 to fend off elimination at the hands of the Lakers. Czar followed suit in the other league semi-final series with an 11-4 win over Veteran, as both best-of-3 series are now tied at 1-1 and will be decided tonight.

Estevan Elks tournament helps to bring in funds for MRI Project

The Estevan community came out in a major way on the weekend as the Estevan Elks club held a golf fundraiser, looking to raise money for the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation's MRI Project. The golf tournament, held on Saturday, July 19th at Hidden Valley Golf Resort, brought out plenty of golfers and also hosted an auction to help raise money.

Donald Hilstrom, the president of the Estevan Elks, says it was a huge success.
