Update: Missing teen found deceased (Maskwacis RCMP seek public assistance in locating missing 16-year-old)

Update:

On July 29 the Maskwacis RCMP advised that the teen was located deceased in Ermineskin Cree Nation.

An autopsy was performed, and the death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been engaged and has taken over the investigation.

On July 24, the Maskwacis RCMP requested public assistance in locating a missing 16-year-old.

The teen was last heard from by his family on July 23, and they were concerned for his well-being.

 

Farmers with unpaid deliveries to LSM Grain Ltd should contact the CGC immediately

On Tuesday, the Canadian Grain Commission revoked the grain dealer licence of LSM Grain Ltd. in Saskatoon.

Grain farmers in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta may be owed money by this company for grain deliveries.

According to the company's website they handle Organic and Conventional cereals, pulses and oilseeds.

Grain farmers who may be affected could be eligible for compensation through the CGC's Safeguards for Grain Farmers Program. 

Bank of Canada cuts key interest rate by quarter percentage point to 4.5%

The Bank of Canada cut its key interest rate for a second consecutive time on Wednesday, but warned the path back to two per cent inflation may be uneven and would ultimately determine the pace of future rate cuts.

The central bank says its decision to lower its policy rate by a quarter percentage point was motivated by easing price pressures and weakening economic conditions.

Its key interest rate now stands at 4.5 per cent.

Fire Ban issued for County of Stettler

A Fire Ban has been issued for The County of Stettler.

As of July 23rd, the following order is in effect:

  • Extinguish ALL fires.
  • The ignition of new fires is prohibited.
  • Inspect your equipment regularly - Off highway vehicles and farming equipment can start wildfires. INSPECT all off highway vehicles and farm equipment frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris, and ensure spark arrestors are working properly.

Sylvan Lake resident handed key to Hospital Lottery dream home

Officials from the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation presented the Red Deer Hospital Lottery’s grand prize on Tuesday (July 23).  

The key was presented to Sylvan Lake resident, Maxine Rumohr.  

She said winning the home is a dream come true.   

“This is a nice dream that I hope I don’t wake up from,” Rumohr said.  

Calgary Zoo releases more details into death of Baffin the polar bear  

A polar bear that died at the Calgary Zoo last week drowned after some rough play with a fellow polar bear. 

Those details were released by the Wilder Institute and Calgary Zoo on Tuesday following a necropsy (an examination of the animal following its death.)

The examination determined that Baffin died by drowning, after suffering an injury to his trachea by another polar bear, Siku, during rough play.
