New signs add insight to Blackfalds-Lacombe trail section
Trail users will notice a fresh new look along the Blackfalds-Lacombe Connector section of the Trans Canada Trail, thanks to recently installed interpretive panels by Lacombe County.
The updated signs feature educational and engaging content about the surrounding area, highlighting native plants and wildlife, local ecosystems, and insights from the nearby Lacombe Research and Development Centre.
Visitors are encouraged to take a moment during their walk or ride to learn more about the natural features and scientific work that shape the region.
Brian Grocholski named new assistant principal of Alix-MAC School
Wolf Creek Public Schools has appointed Brian Grocholski as the new assistant principal of Alix-MAC School, starting in the 2025–26 school year.
Grocholski is an experienced educator with more than 21 years of service in K–12 settings and has taught at Alix-MAC School since 2014. He has led initiatives in literacy, student leadership, and experiential learning.
Town of Olds opens new administration office
The Town of Olds has officially opened its new administration office, now called the Olds Municipal Centre, at 3501 70 Avenue — just north of the Rotary Athletic Park.
The facility, formerly known as the Operations Centre, is now open to the public for all in-person services, including tax payments, permits and utilities.

Dr. Gabriel Ude, a family medicine physician with obstetrical surgical skills, has joined the team at Stettler Medical Clinic and Stettler Hospital and Care Centre, where he will focus on obstetrics, including prenatal care, deliveries and caesarian sections.

Next Chapter Animal Rescue accepts more than just dog and cat items as donations they can take almost anything, thanks to their on-site thrift store.
The thrift store, located in a small shack in the parking lot of Next Chapter Animal Rescue, was lovingly renovated into a welcoming space that’s packed to the rafters and is nearly a year old.
It began with a soft opening in October 2024, followed by a grand opening in November and it’s now filled with fun finds, clothing, household items, and plenty of dog and cat accessories.
Blackfalds spray park reopens after mechanical issue
The Tayles Spray Park in Blackfalds has reopened after being temporarily closed due to a mechanical issue that left it without water.
The town thanked residents for their patience and acknowledged the efforts of the parks crew for completing the repairs.

Road work on Riverside Drive will impact Three Mile Bend access
The City of Red Deer is advising motorists of upcoming road closures that may impact commute times and access along Riverside Drive, from 67 Street to 77 Street.
Milling work will begin on Wednesday, July 23, during which time a partial road closure will be required. While access between 67 and 77 Street will be maintained, motorists should expect delays.
Senft to step down as CEO of Seeds Canada
The founding CEO of the five-year-old organization will stay on until January 2026
Seeds Canada is looking for a new chief executive officer after Barry Senft announced he is stepping down from the role he’s held for about four years.
Senft will continue to serve as CEO until the end of January 2026.
“I think after five years, it’s time for new leadership,” he said during the 2025 Seeds Canada conference in Quebec City.
He said someone with more seeds experience would make sense now that the organization is up and running.
