Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued, potential for tennis ball-sized hail

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Foothills County. 

Conditions could bring about thunderstorms capable of producing "very strong wind gusts, up to golf ball to tennis ball size hail, and torrential rain."

The storm is said to be located near Okotoks and moving east at 30 km/h.

They're warning of potential for flash flooding and water pooling on roadways as well as damage from hail.

The warning also includes a reminder that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, though there is nit currently a tornado watch in place.

Dawgs put on a show on Fan Appreciation Night

The Okotoks Dawgs put on a show for the fans tonight, handling the Bombers 22-2 in what felt like a Dawgs' All-Star game.

Before the game started the Dawgs organization brought the billet families of the players onto the field for a feel-good moment to start Fan Appreciation Night.

Greg Ross got the win after starting on the mound and playing three full innings with two strikeouts. The relief pitchers were Ryan McFarland, Easton Corey, Ricky Sanchez, and Connor Crowson. Your eyes are not deceiving you, Sanchez and Crowson were pitchers for tonight's game.

Dawgs sniff out Bombers for a win on the road

The Okotoks Dawgs had an explosion of runs in Brooks, beating the Bombers 13-5 tonight.

Trent Warstler took the start on the mound, getting the win by pitching in four full innings and putting out three Bomber batters with K's. Garrett Maloney, Cam Stephens, Chase Tucker, Preston Tocheniuk, and Trey Mackwood would all throw pitches on the mound as relievers. Maloney had a strikeout and didn't allow a single hit during the inning he pitched. Tucker would put out three batters during his time up at the mound.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Foothills County

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued in Foothills County.

According to Environment Canada, current conditions could lead to severe thunderstorms that may create strong wind and large hail.

Storms are drifting eastward from B.C. at about 50 km/h, and could die down as they move farther east.

As always, Environment Canda is reminding people of the danger posed by lightning strikes with the old adage, "Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"

Knox finishes eighth in 200m Individual Medley final in Paris

Finlay Knox competed in the men's 200m individual medley final at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Friday (August 2).

The Okotokian placed eighth overall, coming in at 1:57.26.

France's Leon Marchand took gold, posting a time of 1:54.06 followed by Duncan Scott of Great Britain and China's Wang Shun.

Earlier in the week, Knox, along with Team Canada, finished sixth in the Men's 4x100m Freestyle Relay. 

Knox and Team Canada are back in the pool for the Men's 4x100m Medley Relay on Saturday at 4:40 a.m.

Two Okotoks Ball players are off to 2024 Canada Cup

Kingston Besuijen and Preston Tocheniuk have been named to Team Alberta for the 2024 Canada Cup.

Both Tocheniuk and Besuijen currently are with the Okotoks Dawgs Academy with Tocheniuk's brother Quinn playing for the Okotoks Dawgs of the WCBL.

Besuijen stands at 6'2 and is a right-handed pitcher, while Tocheniuk is a 6'4 right-handed pitcher. Tocheniuk has played two innings for the WCBL Dawgs squad posting two strikeouts and only allowing one hit.

You won't be able to cool off at the Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex on Monday

The Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex will be closed on holiday Monday along with many other town facilities in High River.

It's just due to the civic holiday and that also means the Town Office, FCSS, The Family Center, The Recycle Centre, Operations and Bylaw/Municipal Enforcement.

Garbage collection will run as usual, but the Salvation Army Food Bank will be closed.

RCMP and the Fire Department will remain open and active and 9-1-1 is always available 24/7.
